FREESTYLE SKILLS REQUIRED
Helmets are Required for Bikers and
Recommended for Other Users
Freestyle Terrain may contain jumps, hits, ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, rails, half pipes, quarter
pipes, snowcross, bump terrain and other constructed or natural terrain features.
PRIOR to using Freestyle Terrain, you are responsible for familiarizing yourself with Freestyle
Terrain and obeying all instructions, warnings, and signs.
Freestyle skills require maintaining control on the ground, and in the air.
SMALL MEDIUM LARGE
Smaller Features Medium Features Large Features
Freestyle Terrain has designations for size. Start small and work your way up.
Designations are relative to this ski area.
MAKE A PLAN. Every time you use freestyle terrain, make a plan for each feature
you want to use. Your speed, approach, and take off will directly affect your maneuver
and landing.
LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP. You are responsible for inspecting Freestyle Terrain
before initial use and throughout the day. The features vary in size and change constantly
due to snow conditions, weather, usage, grooming and time of day. Do not jump blindly. Use a
spotter when necessary.
EASY STYLE IT. Always ride or ski in control and within your ability level. Do not attempt
in the air.
RESPECT GETS RESPECT. Respect Freestyle Terrain and others. Only one person on
a feature at a time. Wait your turn and call your start. Always clear the landing area quickly.
Respect all signs and do not enter Freestyle Terrain or use features when closed.
USE OF FREESTYLE TERRAIN EXPOSES YOU TO RISK OF
SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
INVERTED AERIALS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED.
YOU ASSUME THE RISK.
Now Entering Shared Use Terrain
1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
3. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and
unload safely.
Your Responsibility Code
KNOW THE CODE: IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Mountain biking involves elements of risk that common sense and personal
awareness can help reduce. Please adhere to the responsibility code and share
a safe experience with others.
• Ride in control and within your ability level. You must be able to avoid other
people or objects.
• Stay off the lifts and trails if your ability is impaired by drugs, alcohol, or fatigue.
• All riders must wear a helmet. A full-face helmet, gloves, and body armor are
strongly recommended.
• Inspect your bike or have it checked by a qualified bike mechanic before you ride.
• Be sure to have the physical dexterity, ability, and knowledge to safely load, ride, and
unload lifts. Ask the lift attendant for assistance if you need it.
• Be aware of changing conditions on trails and features. Inspect features before use and
throughout the day.
• Stay on marked trails. Obey all signs and warnings. Do not cut switchbacks. Keep off
closed areas.
• Avoid riders ahead of you. They have the right of way.
• Look uphill and yield to other riders when entering a trail or starting downhill.
• Do not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
• If you are involved in or witness a collision or accident, you must identify yourself to the
Bike Patrol.
• Do not feed, provoke, or approach wildlife.
Park privileges will be suspended for breach of this code.
Mountain Bike Responsibility Code
YOU ARE NOW ENTERING SHARED USE TERRAIN: SKIERS, SNOWBOARDERS, FAT TIRE BIKES, AND OTHER USERS.
Shared use and freestyle terrain, much like skiing, snowboarding and fat tire
biking, expose you to risk of serious injury or death. Prior to using shared use and
freestyle terrain, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with all
instructions and warnings and to follow your responsibility code.
1. This terrain is shared use terrain between fat tire bicycles and skiers/snowboarders.
2. Follow your respective responsibility codes at all times.
3. All users of this terrain must have a valid snowpass/lift ticket/season pass.
4. Fat tire bikes slow, stop and change direction differently than skis/snowboards.
Always be aware of your surroundings and give other users extra space.
5. All bikes must be inspected by Spirit Mountain personnel.
6. Use extreme caution while using this terrain and understand that the shared
use of this terrain is cause for additional caution.
7. Bikers must yield to skiers at all times. Downhill riders on any equipment
have the right of way.
8. In jumping and using this terrain, you assume the risk of serious injury.
9. Terrain changes constantly due to weather, usage and other factors.
10. For your safety, take note and abide by closed areas, hazard markings and signage.
11. Grooming machines, snowmobiles, ATV’s and maintenance personnel may be
encountered at any time.
12. If you have any reservations to entering this terrain, no matter how slight, you
should not enter.
