Have Hope and Be Hope Sojourner Series 1 07302017Ephraim Termulo
Peter wrote 1 Peter to encourage Christians living as foreigners and pilgrims in various regions of Asia Minor who faced persecution. He reminded them that through faith in Jesus Christ, they have been chosen, redeemed, and born again to a living hope. Peter urged the believers to maintain integrity, know their identity as God's holy priesthood, and follow Christ's example of enduring suffering with courage and without retaliating, so that their living hope would be contagious to others.
The document discusses King David's reign over Israel. It describes his early successes in defeating Goliath and gaining favor with the people and King Saul. However, David later fell from grace by committing adultery with Bathsheba and arranging the death of her husband Uriah. While God reproved David for his sins, David repented and recovered spiritually over time. Though he faced consequences like the sword in his household, David remained faithful to God and was eventually restored as the ruler of Israel.
This document summarizes J.C. Ryle's reasons for why prayer is the most important subject in practical religion. It provides 7 reasons:
1. Prayer is necessary for salvation, as no one is saved without asking for it through prayer.
2. A habit of prayer is a sure mark of a true Christian, as prayer comes naturally to them as children crying comes naturally.
3. Private prayer is the most neglected duty in religion because it is unseen, yet it is not natural and it is unfashionable to the carnal mind.
4. Prayer is the most greatly encouraged act in religion, as we are told to pray in Jesus' name and the Holy Spirit helps us in
This document discusses the importance of prayer and provides guidance on how to pray effectively. It makes the following key points:
1) Prayer is the most important subject in practical religion and a habit of prayer is a sure mark of a true Christian.
2) It provides guidance for both those who do not pray, urging them to start, and those who do pray, encouraging them to make prayer regular, earnest, and full of faith.
3) When praying, believers should be humble, specific in their requests, intercede for others, thankful, and watchful over the influences on their prayers. Frequent and fervent prayer is necessary for spiritual growth.
This document discusses the conditional nature of God's grace and salvation. It provides several biblical examples of people who rejected God's grace through stubborn rebellion and unrepentant sin. The scriptures show that true believers can fall from grace if they neglect their salvation and turn to lust and ungodliness. God does not tolerate sin but disciplines and may condemn those who despise His grace. Overall, the document argues that salvation is secure only for those who live faithfully to Christ; backsliding and willful sin can lead to rejection if unrepented.
1. The document discusses a sermon about 1 Peter 5:1-11 where Peter addresses elders and younger members.
2. Elders are told to shepherd God's flock willingly and not lord over others, while younger members are told to submit to elders.
3. All are called to humility and casting anxiety on God, as the devil prowls to destroy believers. God will restore the suffering faithful.
This document discusses successful prayers. It provides an overview of a presentation on praying successfully based on passages from the Bible. The objectives are to prepare for prayer by aligning with God in relationship, honoring Him alone, seeking His heart and burdens, and demonstrating total dependence. It discusses prerequisites of prayer including private communion not for show, meaningful relationship over meaningless repetition, and listening to God. Key aspects of preeminence in prayer are addressing God as loving Father, honoring His name, invoking His kingdom, and submitting to His will. Petitions include daily bread, forgiveness, prevention of temptation, and deliverance from evil. Praise includes God's kingdom, power and glory forever.

The document outlines steps believers must take to prepare for Christ's return, which is described as imminent. It states that we must (1) grow spiritually through regular prayer, Bible study, and obedience; (2) strengthen relationships with other believers for accountability and community; and (3) continually share the gospel with non-believers through acts of service and compassion. Preparing also requires depending on the Holy Spirit's power, and getting one's personal life, family, and finances in order. The conclusion urges urgency, saying Christ's coming will happen very quickly with no time left for reflection once it arrives.
The document discusses Jesus' teachings on lust, immorality, and divorce. It addresses how desire turns to sin if not kept in check, and how to "disassociate" from sinful circumstances through figuratively "cutting off" offending parts. Jesus forbids divorce except in cases of adultery or pre-marital fornication, establishing marriage as a lifelong commitment. For those unable to receive this teaching, dedicating oneself to celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom is recommended.
Our life journey, especially our life assignment is the race that we run. If we need to run well, we need endurance. Here are some helpful insights on how to run with endurance the race that is set before us.
God desires to bless His people. God releases His blessing of prosperity in many ways. But walking in prosperity is more than receiving a blessing. It involves stewardship, fruitful labor, wisdom, obedience, giving, learning, and co-laboring with God.

This document discusses 4 significant milestones in the discipleship journey: Gilgal, Bethel, Jericho, and Jordan. It focuses on Bethel, describing it as encountering and experiencing the presence of God through communion, revelation, worship, and dependency. Bethel experiences involve encountering God's love through salvation, progressively experiencing his grace, maturing through trials that purify faith, and growing deeper in knowing God through his self-revelation. The Holy Spirit guides believers to continually experience God.
TMIY - Becoming a Man after God's Own Heart - Week 20PDEI
This document outlines a Lenten program with daily and weekly exercises focused on prayer and sacrifice. The daily program includes consecrating the day to God, an exercise to overcome spiritual obstacles, a daily sacrifice, and an examination of conscience. The weekly program's second week focuses on evaluation of prayer.
It discusses how Satan seeks to separate man from God and others through pride, ego, and isolation, while God's plan is to draw man into communion. Data is presented showing declining religious behaviors and increasing health risks from loneliness and divorce.
The story of Dr. Alexis Carrel is summarized, from his early atheism and Nobel Prize-winning work, to witnessing miraculous cures at Lourdes
The document discusses the patience of the saints and what it means to endure faithfully during times of tribulation and persecution. It provides examples from the Bible of believers like Job, the Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace, and Jesus who endured trials and delays but maintained their faith in God. Their examples teach that the saints will need patience during the end-times crisis but if they remain faithful, God will deliver them as He has promised.
A regular and timely spiritual health check-up reveals how we are doing spiritually as followers of the Lord Jesus.
The Master‘s Health Check-Up is a reminder about being mindful of our spiritual health and being aware of what affects our spiritual temperature.
The document provides commentary on Revelation 5, which describes John seeing a sealed scroll in God's hand. No one is found worthy to open it until one of the elders says the Lion of Judah has overcome and is worthy. John then sees a lamb that was slain take the scroll. It has seven horns and eyes representing God's power and vision. The lamb is revealed to be Jesus. All of heaven then worships the lamb for being worthy to open the scroll.
The document discusses the topic of worship and idolatry. It defines worship as giving glory and sacrifice to God, including praise with various instruments and dance. Idolatry is worshiping anything other than God the Creator, whether things in nature or things made by humans. It encourages examining internal idolatries like false beliefs and external idolatries like what receives one's money and plans. Nurturing right worship involves renewing one's personal life through Christ's redemption and avoiding carved images or serving other things before God.
God often uses adversity to prepare leaders for greater callings. Joseph experienced many hardships, including slavery and imprisonment, but each test strengthened his character and prepared him to save Egypt and his family from famine. Leaders like Moses, David, Paul and Martin Luther King Jr also faced difficulties that shaped them. Adversity teaches endurance, dependence on God, and compassion for others. While painful, circumstantial crises can initiate a process where God transforms a person into someone able to fulfill their destiny and influence many.
The document discusses 9 aspects of praise found in the original Hebrew and Greek words used in the Bible - halal, shabach, yadah, towdah, barak, zamar, tehillah, agalliao, proskuneo, and thriambeuo. Each aspect has a slightly different meaning and involves different physical expressions of praise such as speaking, shouting, lifting hands, kneeling, playing instruments, singing, dancing, laying prostrate, and sharing testimonies. The overall message is that God made many ways for people to praise in a way that fits their personality and situation, but the focus should always be on honoring God rather than drawing attention to oneself.
Does your family ever quarrel? Why do fights and arguments erupt, even among Christians? Based on James 3:13-18 how might “earthly wisdom” provoke fights and quarrels? How do you think “wisdom from heaven” helps us resolve conflicts we face? What does James say is the source of quarrels (4:1–2)? James says we don't receive even when we ask because we ask with wrong motives (3). What are examples of right and wrong motives in prayer? What else does James say is necessary in order to come to God in prayer (4–10)? What does it mean to be humble, to submit to God (6–7)? James gives several suggestions (7–10) for humbling our-selves before God. How does each contribute to a humble spirit? Are there situations where humility could help you become a source of peace this coming week?
The document provides context about the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5-7. It discusses that Matthew likely wrote his gospel around 40-55 AD to Jews. It was addressed to Jesus' disciples and covers topics like the beatitudes, loving your enemies, and teachings on divorce that go beyond the Old Testament law. The document aims to explain misunderstandings around the sermon by examining its original context and contents within Jewish history and culture.
TMIY - Becoming a Man after God's Own Heart - Week 17PDEI
This document outlines a Lenten program to help men become more like God through spiritual exercises focused on overcoming temptations. It discusses the Parable of the Sower, explaining the four types of soil as orientations in the spiritual life and Satan's three fundamental temptations. The program includes daily exercises and sacrifices during Lent to evaluate one's relationship with God, self, and others. It aims to help men encounter God through practices like prayer, presence, and studying Scripture.
The document provides guidance on giving thanks in difficult times based on passages from Philippians 4. It outlines a 4-step process: 1) Worry about nothing, 2) Pray about everything, 3) Thank God in all things, 4) Think about right things. The overall message is that by following these steps - worrying about nothing, praying in all situations, expressing gratitude, and focusing on positive thoughts - one can experience the peace of God even during stressful times.
Pamela Hillman Joseph Calling conference messagesOs Hillman
Pamela Hillman underwent a 5 phase journey similar to Joseph's: 1) Vision, 2) Crisis, 3) Character Development, 4) Death of old self, 5) Elevation. Her crisis involved abuse, drugs, and danger. Through scripture memorization, forgiveness, and ministry in prison, she developed character and died to her old self. This led to founding Chebar Ministries to help women in prison through mentoring, packages, and speaking. Her journey shows how God can elevate those who go through hardship if they develop character along the way.

This document discusses the importance of courage and defines what courage is. It explores different types of courage shown by biblical figures and emphasizes having the courage of Jesus. It encourages standing firm in faith despite difficulties. Several passages from Philippians are summarized that promote having joy, gentleness, prayer, good thinking, and finding strength through Christ to face life's challenges courageously. The document concludes with a prayer for God to grant faith, courage, and strength to live well.
This prayer model is from the book "The Hour That Changes the World". The author presents 12 sections of prayer that if practiced for 5 minutes each would accumulate an hour of prayer a day for the development of a habit of prayer. Eventually, once the habit is developed, a more intimate, personal prayer devotion can be created. Very useful for those who want to know how to pray.
This document discusses how Christians can restore the joy of their salvation. It begins by examining passages from Psalms and Philippians about rejoicing. It then asks whether readers have truly experienced salvation or if their joy was based on other things that could be lost. The document suggests examining one's life for unresolved sin or anger at God as potential reasons for lost joy. It encourages rejoicing in God's character, works, and salvation both privately and corporately in all circumstances, according to the example of Habakkuk. The overarching message is that Christians should rejoice in the Lord always.
Few things are as fundamental to the abundant life Jesus came to give us than our continual commitment to being grateful in all circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 1:18 and Eph. 5:20 make it abundantly clear that God requires us to always gives thanks to Him no matter what happens because He has promised to make all things work together for good for us ( Rom. 8:28)!
Life outside of gratitude is a lie. Life outside of gratitude is poison to our soul. God will help us, but we must choose to give Him thanks as Job did in his great losses. We must allow God to be somewhat mysterious and trust Him no matter what evil befalls us. That is real faith.
This document discusses the Spirit of Fear of the Lord. It begins by defining the Fear of the Lord as having a dread of sinning and offending God. It then contrasts this holy fear with unholy, demonic fear that is opposed to faith. Unholy fear binds people, but perfect love from God casts out fear. The document examines what the Bible says about developing a Fear of the Lord through wisdom, obedience, and reverence for God and authorities. It emphasizes the need for transformation from irreverence to practicing reverence in how we act and live.
This document provides commentary on Philippians 4:4-7. It discusses how spiritual stability comes from knowing God and rejoicing in Him rather than circumstances. True joy and contentment are found by meditating on God's character and promises in Scripture. Christians are commanded to have gracious humility toward others and not to be anxious because the Lord is near to help through all of life's troubles. Relying on God builds confidence even when difficult times come.
The document discusses how believers can maintain spiritual stability through rejoicing in the Lord. It says that knowing God through studying His attributes in Scripture allows Christians to rejoice even during hard times. It also emphasizes having a gentle spirit and remembering that the Lord is near provides stability, encouraging believers not to be anxious but to cast their cares on God through prayer. Maintaining a right view of God's greatness, love, and power enables one to stand firm in their faith.

1 Cor 4 (Nature of True Apostleship and Warning) by Albert Samuel Milton - Wo...albertsamuelmilton
The document discusses Paul's message to the church in Corinth from 1 Corinthians 4. It provides commentary on various verses. Some key points:
- Paul sees himself as a servant of God, put in charge of explaining God's mysteries. His goal is to be found faithful by God.
- Paul does not care what humans think of him, only about God's judgment. True judgment comes from observing one's fruits, not appearances.
- Paul warns against pride and boasting, as all gifts come from God. He wishes the Corinthians would truly reign through Christ rather than acting wise in their own eyes.
- Paul sees apostles as displayed last and condemned, yet they are strong through weakness. He

Philippians part 1 - The life of joy - IntroductionDr. Bella Pillai
The document provides an overview and themes of the book of Philippians from a study titled "The Life of Joy". It discusses that Paul's letter reveals a joyous attitude despite imprisonment, with joy mentioned 16 times. Major themes are: 1) Paul encourages the Philippians to rejoice as he does, finding joy through faith, not circumstances. 2) Fellowship and partnership are emphasized. 3) The letter speaks of unity and selflessness amid some discord. 4) Many references are made to being "in Christ", the source of life. Discussion questions provided explore distinguishing biblical joy from happiness and overcoming "joy killers".
The Bible says that even though Abel was dead he continued to speak. George Eliot wrote a poem entitled "The Invisible Choir" where she talks about those that have died that still surround us through their influence. How can we become "an invisible choir" for those who come after us? What about us will live on after we have passed from this life?

This document discusses the importance of living with an attitude of gratitude as a growing Christian. It says that Christians should be confident in their salvation, disciplined in reading the Bible, committed to their local church, maintain constant joy through the Holy Spirit, and continue in prayer. Living with gratitude is more than just being thankful on holidays - Christians should be thankful in all circumstances because it is God's will. The document provides reasons to be thankful like eternal life, the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and physical blessings. Christians are instructed to express gratitude to God in worship and prayer, and to others through kind words. They can do this even in trials because God is in control and works all things for good.
This document provides commentary on Philippians 4:6-7. It discusses what it means not to worry and instead bring everything to God in prayer with a thankful heart. It defines worry as rumination without action, while concern is solution-oriented. True prayer involves adoration, supplication, and thanksgiving. When we pray this way, allowing God's love, wisdom and power to guard our hearts and minds, we experience the peace of God that surpasses understanding.
The document contains excerpts from Philippians 4 discussing standing firm in faith, rejoicing, gentleness, prayer, thinking on noble things, and putting teachings into practice. It encourages changing one's thinking to focus on rejoicing, God's nearness, and positivity instead of anxiety by considering God's peace and presence. Changing thoughts can change feelings from being hostage to circumstances by maintaining a defiant spirit of rejoicing in the Lord.

Prayer can take many forms and be done anywhere at any time. It is important for connecting with God through direct address, conversation, and seeking God's presence. While there are no set rules, prayer is commonly done kneeling, bowing, with hands spread out, or standing. Christians should pray regularly to strengthen their faith, seek God's will, bring them closer to God, and ask for help, wisdom and healing for themselves and others.

As we had mentioned before that what God wants us to do is what we can do, but we live in a world controlled by the devil, so we will be brainwashed and like to do things that we can’t do. Then, we will be trapped in a desperate mood, because these things are generally undefined, or humans can’t do it at all, but our energy is spent on whether we achieve it, and we don’t calm down and think about what God has said. And exactly what God wants us to do, this is the focus of this chapter

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Trusting God's Providence | Verse: Romans 8: 28-31JL de Belen
Trusting God's Providence.
Providence - God’s active preservation and care over His creation. God is both the Creator and the Sustainer of all things Heb. 1:2-3; Col. 1:17
-God keep His promises.
-God’s general providence is toward all creation
- All things were made through Him
God’s special providence is toward His children.
We may suffer now, but joy can and will come
God can see what we cannot see
2. We are commanded to rejoice
• Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always:
and again I say, Rejoice.
• At all times rejoice!
• In all situations rejoice!
3. Why rejoice at all times?
Because at
no
time is
the
Christian
without HOPE!
4. The Christian hope
• Ephesians 2:12 That at that time you were without
Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel,

no hope, and without God in the world:

once were far off are made near by the blood of
Christ.
• Ephesians 2:14 For HE is our peace, who has made
both one, and has broken down the middle wall of
partition between us;
5. Peter Rejoiced when what?

they had called the apostles, and beaten
them, they commanded that they should not
speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
• Acts 5:41 And they departed from the
presence of the council, rejoicing that they
were counted worthy to suffer shame for his
name.

• Not saying we won’t have concerns of this
world but we are to have such hope in God
that when faced with them we turn to God in
prayer knowing HE will provide!
10. Anxiety is not wrong if…
• It leads to prayer!
• Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing; but in
everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known
unto God.
• Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which
passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus.
11. Supplication
• The word rendered supplication is
a stronger term than the former. It
is the mode of prayer peculiarly
which arises from the sense of
need, or want--from
12. Thanksgiving
• We can always find something to be thankful
for, no matter what may be the burden of our
wants, or the special subject of our petitions.
When we pray for the supply of our wants, we
may be thankful for that kind Providence
which has hitherto befriended us; when we
pray for restoration from sickness, we may be
thankful for the health we have hitherto
enjoyed, and for God's merciful interposition
in the former days of trial, and for his
goodness in now sparing our lives;.
13. Thanksgiving
• when we pray that our children and friends may
be preserved from danger and death, we may
remember how often God has interposed to
save them; when, oppressed with a sense of sin,
we pray for pardon, we have abundant cause of
thanksgiving that there is a glorious way by
which we may be saved. The greatest sufferer
that lives in this world of redeeming love, and
who has the offer of heaven before him, has
cause of gratitude. (albert barnes)
