                      5th PARTIAL JOURNALS – 10th

Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by November 8th. Write down a whole page, without skipping a line, and using
your own words.

If you must do some research, use books, internet or any other means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.

   1. People of the Book: To Muslims, Jews and Christians belong to the same
religious tradition and call us “People of the Book”. Is this correct? Do you
      agree?
   2. “Muslims: Pioneers in Women's Rights”: 13OO years ago, the Muslims gave
women more rights than in the western world. What kind of rights were given to
the women back then, that only recently have been given to women in the
western world? Does this surprise you?
   3. Alhambra: An architectural marvel of Spain, built by Muslim architects.
Research on it, look for pictures and write what you think of it. Remember, it
was built a long time ago!
   4. Sufis: They were Muslim thinkers and it is even theorized that they were the
people who indirectly triggered the Renaissance. Research some more on the
and find what kind of achievements did they give to the world.
   5. Baghdad: Today is reminds everyone of a chaotic city. Back in its heyday it
was one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Write down what kind of
things you would find if you were a trader arriving there for the first time.

Note: If you have not received your journal, please go to the teacher’s office and look
for it.
