                      5th PARTIAL JOURNALS – 10th

Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by December 13th. Write down a whole page, without skipping a line, and using
your own words.

If you must do some research, use books, internet or any other means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.

   1. Al-Jazari: Who was this man? Why is he so important? Could we compare him
      to Leonardo da Vinci?
   2. Vlad Tepes, a.k.a. “Vlad the Impaler”: For Romanians, he is a symbol of
resistance against the Ottoman Turks, for them, he was the devil incarnate. Who
was this obscure man? How is he part of modern culture?
   3. Atatürk: He is referred as the “Father” of modern day Turkey. Why is that so?
What kind of changes did he bring to the Ottoman country?
   4. Balfour Declaration: What is so important about this treaty? How does it affect
the modern-day Middle East? What is your opinion
   5. Religious Fundamentalism: How has religious fundamentalism shaped the
Middle East in the last fifty years? Do you agree with its stance or do you have
      something to say against it?

Note: If you have not received your journal, please go to the teacher’s office and look
for it.
