JOURNAL ENTRIES – SECOND PARTIAL
Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by June 11th. Write down a whole page, skipping a line, and using your own
words.
If you must do some research, use books, internet or whatever means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.
• Mansa Musa
You are a Muslim living in El Cairo, Egypt. You see a long, long… very long
caravan coming to the city. When you ask around who is coming, if it is an
Army, invaders, some Christian pilgrims, they tell you it is the famous Mansa
Musa. What is the impression you get?
• Ibn Battuta
Place yourself in the shoes of Ibn Battuta. You are here in Guayaquill, travelling
around South America. What is the impression of the city? Write down a travel
log!

What are your feelings about the way African slaves were treated on the ships?
Was this humane? What would you feel if you found yourself on the same kind
of situation?
• The Slave Trade I
Europeans were not the only people responsible for the Slave Trade. The same
Africans that lived on the coast made their living by selling out their fellow
inhabitants. Is this an obscure part of History you hadn’t heard about? What are
your feelings towards this betrayal? Are whites responsible for encouraging this
too?
• The Slave Trade II
Europeans colonized different parts of the world in search of resources. In
Africa, they enslaved the natives. Were these humans considered "resources" by
Europeans? Explain your thoughts on that!
