This document summarizes the findings from a visit to Josey Records, a record store in Farmers Branch, Texas. The store offers extended play albums, long play albums, and exclusives. Marketing reps do not often visit due to focusing on more important tasks. Josey Records hosts acoustic performances and notifies customers a week in advance through Instagram. While no exclusive Record Store Day vinyls were found, some store exclusives were available. The store has a variety of merchandise and older promotional materials, but no current promotions. It would be a good place for a local indie artist to do an album release performance and signing.

2. EXTENDED PLAY ALBUM (EP)

people know that they were there to
do their own thing with their own
style. Willoughby’s Beach was a call
to the world to let them know the

3. LONG PLAY ALBUM (LP)
• Pure Gold by Elvis Presley, is a
compilation album that was released in
1975 by RCA Records. It is a shorter
album, but it does focus on his earlier rock
and roll hits. It became an extremely
popular seller after Elvis’ unexpected
death (Wikipedia, (n.d.).

4. Research Question
• “Honestly, not a lot. We’ve had a few
come in to visit when we held events for
artist they represent, like when we had
NF in the store the other day, but other
than that not often. They have much
more important things to be doing than
visiting a small town record store!
Hopefully because we are the largest
store, they will want to come in and

5. Events

have a great space for it. Looking through
their Instagram you will be noti

ed about a
week in advance for an upcoming event.
This past Wednesday, Royal & The Serpent
did an acoustic performance at the store.

6. Exclusives
• This store was not able to show me any exclusive Record Store Day vinyls, however the did
have a few exclusive vinyls to the store. A lot of fans favorite is when there is an exclusive
piece to a local store and you have to search to
fi
nd it!

7. SWAG
• This piece of SWAG wasn’t free but it is
some serious SWAG. Josey Records had a
great variety of merch, from their own to
bands and artist tour t-shirts. Near the
cash register there were free stickers, that
had the record store logo and smaller
musicians to help get them noticed!

8. Promos
• Looking through the hundreds of posters
and banners on the walls of Josey
Records, I only was able to
fi
nd older
pieces of promotional material, no current
promo for a music product or artist. There
was a “New Releases,” section and there
was an area for customers to sit, play and
listen to an album they potentially want to
buy.

ection
• I would absolutely use this record store for a
local indie artist’s album release. The staff
was friendly and the store was full of music
loving customers. The stage located in the
middle of the store would be the perfect
place for an indie artist to play a few new
songs acoustically and then spend time
signing records for people who came and
purchased a their record after the show.
