Mrs. Johnson welcomes parents to the 3rd grade curriculum night at Sunset Valley. She provides an overview of her teaching background and experience. She outlines the reading, writing, math, science, social studies, spelling, and homework curriculum. Reading instruction uses a reader's workshop model with individual conferences and book projects. Writing follows a writer's workshop process. Math is Common Core aligned with workshop Wednesdays. Science and social studies units alternate and include hands-on lessons. Spelling uses the Rebecca Sitton program. Homework should not exceed 45 minutes including 20 minutes of reading. Classroom management employs the BIST system with tickets and Classroom Dojo. Parents are encouraged to contact Mrs. Johnson with any questions.
