Job Purpose:
The Estimator is responsible for obtaining material quotes and producing estimates for a wide
range of products or services to a client; to cover the issued scope of works. The Estimator will
ensure that theirservicesare providedto an agreedschedule.The role suppliedbythe Estimator
is to ensure thatthe most cost‐effectiveandappropriate workmethodsandmaterialsare utilised
in order to prepare accurate estimates.
Key Accountabilities:
Liaisingcloselywiththe Client,ProjectLeader,Designteamandthe Constructionteamto
understand requirements throughout the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate
project cost is provided.
Working with the Client, Designer and Construction team to assess the levels of risk on a
project, regarding construction activities, material delivery and work schedules.
Site tours of expected work areas to discuss scopes with Client representatives, Alliance
and sub-contractors to define scope and collecting quotes.
Work closely with other professionals including Clients representatives, Project Leaders,
Designers, ConstructionManagers and Engineers in the deliveryof the works to cost and
budget.
Providingpricesforall materialsincludedinprojectplansanddrawingsormaterial request
notifications.
Understanding site specifications for materials and equipment, and able to identify and
notify of errors prior to purchase.
Ensuring the best solution, for cost and or delivery, are taken in to consideration with
suppliers, to meet budget and or project schedules.
Preparingandsubmittingquotationsformaterials,equipmentandlabourcosts.Clarifying
the scope of work estimated, listing assumptions and or exclusions.
Providing advice to the requester on the predicted cost of individual items and keeping
them informed of delivery times and subsequent delays of materials.
Developing Construction plans using establishedsoftware and consulting with Design /
Construction for planning job timescales.
Visiting the work front to assess work achieved and identification of additional work.
Workingas part of a team to monitor the stages of a project to make sure that costs and
deliveries are kept in line with forecasts.
Work as part of a teamand have jointresponsibilityfordeliverytothe estimate provided.
Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials; ensuring
compliance with the safety, health and environmental issues.
Maintaining detailedrecords and a well‐organisedwork schedule to aid in close out of
account queries for goods or services received.
Dealing with a range of suppliers and sub‐contractors to obtain quotations and agree
delivery times.
