MESSAGE
In order to gainfully utilize our large population, we must impart specific skill in our
young workforce. Jagan Institute of Management Studies is doing precisely the same
thing. Over the past two decades, JIMS has made a mark in the field of professional
education. Apart from our flagship program i.e. PGDM, we realised the need to start
some sector-specific management programs. Two such programs in the areas of
International Business and Retail Management were started. Retail Management is
vital because for enhancing public welfare, it is not sufficient to have more material
goods and services. These haveto be providedtothe end users i.e.the consumers. Retail
Excellence is highly relevant in the current scenario when more than half of the world
is affected severely by the recession in western countries. It is extremely important for
the suppliers, manufacturers and the distributors to bring about the superiority in their
operations to make consumption more affordable to the consumers.
The USP of JIMS lies in the following:
We encourage creativity; enhance core capability; impart specific skill. We not only
train our students to be efficient managers but also to be responsible citizens and
honest human beings. We at JIMS follow a student-centric approach and work with a
long term vision. We know that business cycles are inevitable in any liberal and open
economy. We train our students not only to survive but to excel both in good as well
as bad times, booms and depressions; highs and lows!

I call retail as a daily business and none of the business can sustain without right mix of talent
pool and same is true for retail also. In last few years many of the small and big institutions
like JIMS have added retail as a special curriculum in their degree and PG courses .As fast as
retail business will grow, in the same pace industry would need right mix of retail talent therefore
without leaving any doubt retail leads to a bright & promising career for all incumbents. From
the beginners’ position starting as a Trainee one can grow up to a level of Store Manager in the
front-end and similarly various position(s) are available in the backend (other than shop floor)
including Merchandising, Buying, Planning, Marketing, Supply Chain and Logistics etc.Retail not
only has a good career in itself but with close customer interface employees are rather trained
more frequently than any other industry which make them prepared for any service business.

CRMC- Placement Cell
Our placement board has two broad objectives: First objective is to place the students with good brands
in retail. This objective is conveniently achieved thanks to the excellent grooming and learning standards at
JIMS. We ensurethat they are sent to the companies providing better growth opportunities. The second and
equally important objective of CRMC is to assist them in stepping up the corporate ladder at a uniform pace. It
encourages them to look for long term gains and also motivates them to step up by working hard and not by
shifting jobs at regular intervals thereby helping the companies in checking attrition rate which is alarmingly
high in retail. Our students’ performance and loyalties to their companies have further helped the cell in
strengthening the ties with the recruiting companies. For details of placement record of previous batches you
can visit us at www.jimsindia.org
