Park & Ride Pony Wall
Problem: Designer had a concept but did not know how to translate it into concrete or
develop drawings for the public bid.

Solution: Prior to bid, I recommended textures, depths, called out Fitzgerald
Formliner’s patterns and assisted with the specifications.

Result: Fitzgerald Formliners won the job because of the work prior to the public bid.
Approximately $12,000 project.
Dona Ana Interchange, Las Cruces, NM

Problem: Complicated, very large scale custom design

Solution: Worked with production department to find an alternate way to build parts
using non-standard materials and yet make it easy to use in the field.

Result: Fitzgerald ended up with a profitable project at $48,000; the customer
produced an excellent end result, thus a new, very loyal customer was created for all
future jobs. Fitzgerald got established with Gannet Fleming design engineer, who
continued to call for future projects, thus we were specified & knew about jobs before
bid time.
Waco, Texas and surrounding area bridge scheme

Problem: The State designer was exceptionally particular on the rock design and it took
nearly 6 months to satisfy his requirements
Solution: Multiple small size texture samples were provided
Result: I was aware this was the first phase of this scheme which started in 2005 and has
been used on multiple projects since , total sales to date, approximately $300,000. Design will
continue for years to come and Fitzgerald have the master tools in house, thus each
subsequent project means profit margins are higher.
Army Ready Reserve Center, Norman Oklahoma

Over a 3-4 year period, numerous reserve centers were built around the country, I won
contracts on tilt-up and precast structures in Norman, McAlister, Broken Arrow and Mustang,
Oklahoma, and Tyler, Texas.

Result: I made sure all of these jobs were researched & tracked throughout country
Standard patterns were used, which were more profitable
Developed new customer contacts with this sector of the market
Sold Fitzgerald as the “expert” on this type of work
Michigan Department of Transportation, Telegraph Road

Landscape architect sent me various designs for the noise wall and wanted help pricing the
form liner. Originally they were variations of split face block and brick and not particularly
attractive. I suggested she consider developing a custom design based on the surrounding
area which she could do for a bit more money.

Result: I worked with production to assist in the final design and to price all aspects of the
job prior to bid, thus we understood the job inside & out. At bid time, I sold Fitzgerald as the
experts on the job and won the contract for $120,000. We gained full trust from the MI/DOT
landscape team and they called us for other design assistance.

  • 8. Michigan Department of Transportation, Telegraph Road Landscape architect sent me various designs for the noise wall and wanted help pricing the form liner. Originally they were variations of split face block and brick and not particularly attractive. I suggested she consider developing a custom design based on the surrounding area which she could do for a bit more money. Result: I worked with production to assist in the final design and to price all aspects of the job prior to bid, thus we understood the job inside & out. At bid time, I sold Fitzgerald as the experts on the job and won the contract for $120,000. We gained full trust from the MI/DOT landscape team and they called us for other design assistance.
