The JGU Food Saver mobile app allows students to indicate their interest in upcoming campus meal options to help reduce food waste. Each week, the upcoming menu is provided, and students can select "Yes" or "No" for each meal via the app. This gives an estimate of how many students will attend, allowing the cafeteria to better plan food quantities. Currently around 100kg of uneaten food is wasted daily, costing money and resources. The app aims to cut costs by streamlining food preparation with student feedback. It has no implementation costs and does not generate revenue, but instead saves expenses associated with excess, wasted food.
2. It is a mobile application that allow people to help the food
management system of JGU’s campus in forming statistics for
various causes like how much people are willing to go for a
particular meal.
3. WHAT’STHE NEED ?
Everyday around 100 kg of food is wasted in the campus mess
because food prepared by the Sodexo is in the same quantity
everyday but sometimes menu is not so good, due to which
many people prefer to go out to food court.
Some people says that menu is the main problem of food
wastage but every day we can’t have items like Paneer and Dal
Makhani, so according to me menu is not the only problem.
4. BUSINESS MODEL IDEA/
SOLUTION
We are provided with the menu list before the week starts, my
idea is to develop a mobile application for the menu in which
when the menu is received people can just tick ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ on
every meal. (Which will further indicate the person is willing to
eat that meal or not)
This will not restrict any student who said ‘No’ to the meal, it will
just give an idea/approx. for how much people will come to eat.
Thus, according to this food can be prepared and as a result food
wastage will be reduced.
9. VALUE PROPOSITION
■ A lot of food is thrown in dustbin everyday rather giving to
anyone, so we are trying to reduce this wastage.
At present university has no law regarding extra food left out
every day so extra food cannot be given to anyone outside
the university. So, we are trying to save food for other human
being, because when we’ll consume less, less food is
purchased from market and if less food is purchased from the
market, prices will not hike on daily basis and poor people will
be able to afford it soon. This a macro step to empower poor
people so they can also have access to food.
13. COST STRUCTURE
■ There’s no cost included in this project, as this
data can be simply collected with the help of
survey on any platform such as mobile website.
14. REVENUE STREAMS
■ These types of business model don’t generate
revenue as such rather they cut costs.
