Throughout her life, the author has changed in significant ways both outwardly and within her character. As a child she progressed from early childhood through kindergarten and became a diligent pupil. She then entered her early teens, left school and went to the Lyceum during her adolescence. During this careless age she formed lifelong friendships and reached the age of consent, taking on more responsibility. She reflects on how she has changed internally over time.
