Jennifer Heiner directs retail operations for a New Jersey running company, including performing the human resources function for the company’s retail stores, monitoring inventory, and overseeing customer service satisfaction levels. She also plays a major role in the firm’s sponsorship of five races in the metropolitan area. Prior to taking her current job, she worked as a client services coordinator at a northern New Jersey animal hospital. An owner of an English bulldog, Jennifer Heiner volunteers much of her time with animal rescue groups.
Running an animal rescue is hard work, though it can also be immensely rewarding. Some of the important elements of starting an animal rescue is determining the target animals, how they’ll be boarded and fed before adoption, arranging for medical attention, engaging the services of volunteers, paid staff, and board members, and navigating government regulations both for an animal rescue and a business.
Most animal rescues operate as not-for-profit organizations, a status which must be secured from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which means that their income isn’t taxed like other businesses. They still incur expenses that must be met. They generate income by seeking contributions from the general public and area businesses by charging adoption and surrender fees. They try to keep expenses low by recruiting volunteer labor and foster parents when appropriate and entering into partnerships with area veterinarians and animal welfare organizations.
For animal lovers with entrepreneurial inclinations, operating an animal rescue might be the ideal career path. For those not oriented to the whole business side of the equation, an alternative option is to get a job working as paid staff for an existing animal rescue.
Jennifer Heiner is a sales professional and animal lover who owns an English bulldog. Scientific studies have shown that owning a dog can boost both physical and emotional health. Dogs make their owners feel happier by increasing oxytocin levels. They also encourage more physical activity, as dog owners walk an average of 300 minutes per week compared to 100 minutes for non-owners. Additionally, the human-dog bond helps lower stress levels, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Choosing the right running shoe is important to prevent injury and maximize comfort and performance. Runners should consider their foot type, running gait, and terrain when selecting a shoe with the proper support and cushioning. A knowledgeable salesperson can help analyze a runner's needs to pick the best shoe for their body and running routine.
Jennifer Heiner graduated from Lehigh University with degrees in marketing and economics. Since 2019, she has served as the retail director of a New Jersey running company. To choose the optimal running shoes, select shoes specifically designed for running to prevent injury, and make sure the shoes fit comfortably with half an inch of space at the toe and your foot centered without pinching or sliding.
Trail runners should choose shoes with good grip if they run on trails frequently. Road runners are often better suited to lightweight shoes that can also be used for sprints and races. Runners should replace their shoes every 400-500 miles and purchase new shoes in person from a store that can properly analyze their gait, arch type, and foot width to find shoes tailored to their individual needs in order to reduce injury and improve performance.
Jennifer Heiner is the retail director for an East Coast running company, managing four retail stores and helping launch their new sneaker line. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and wines, especially lighter rose wines during the summer.
English Bulldogs have a difficult time cooling themselves down due to their physical traits. As a brachycephalic breed, they have short snouts and thick wrinkly skin which makes it hard for them to pant and regulate their body temperature. 2. Treadmill Running During the Winter
During the winter months, its best to stay safe
and healthy when there are unfavorable running
conditions outside. While it is important to train in
all sorts of weather and temperature, because
you’ll never know what you’ll get on race day, if
its too slippery or icy, its best to stick to running
indoors on the treadmill. While many runners
lament over having to run on the treadmill, these
miles still count and you can get in quite a good
workout doing so!
There are many on-line trainers and coaches who
can provide great workouts on the treadmill to
keep that monotony away. Running in the
treadmill also helps with mental focus and the
mental aspect of running.
Kim, an Instagram trainer, coach, and influencer
has had ton of successes incorporating training
on the treadmill into her routine – and clearly
she’s been successful as she recently ran a 3:11
Marathon to qualify for Boston.
