The Jefferson Community Center was originally a school until 2007. It underwent renovations starting in 2011 by the Westside Community Improvement Association to grow food for the community and operate with zero carbon footprint. It now has an underground reservoir, above ground water tanks, 24 photovoltaic panels that power general electricity, and future plans to double the garden size, add new buildings with more solar panels, and plant fruit-bearing trees around the perimeter to feed more than 20 times the current community.
