Japan is an archipelago located in East Asia between the North Pacific Ocean and Sea of Japan. It consists of over 3000 islands with the four main islands being Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. Japan has diverse geography that includes volcanoes like Mount Fuji, mountains formed by tectonic plate collisions, and rivers that can become polluted. Rivers are bodies of water that flow into larger bodies of water, and mountains are landforms that protrude above the surrounding land. Volcanoes are openings in the earth's surface that allow gases and molten rock to escape from below.
