- Shinto is an ancient Japanese religion based on worship of Kami or deities. It tells the stories of how the islands of Japan were created by Izanagi and Izanami. - Izanagi and Izanami went to the newly created islands and gave birth to deities. Their first daughter Amaterasu became the sun goddess and their second daughter Tsuki-Yumi became the moon goddess. - Other important deities included Sosano-Wo, the god of the sea, Shinatsuhiko-no-Kami, the god of wind, and Kagutsuchi-no-Kami, the god of fire.
