United Power offers rebates on select Energy Star ® electric appliances, high-efficiency electric water
heaters, ground-source and air-source heat pumps, electric thermal storage systems, high-efficiency
electric motors, solar electric and solar hot water installations and small wind systems. Rebates for
energy efficiency are enhanced by the cooperative’s wholesale power provider, Tri-State Generation &
Transmission.

Peak Demand Reduction
To manage United Power’s growing summer peak, the cooperative
began installing load control devices on member air conditioners in
2008. The devices cycle air conditioners on and off for brief intervals
during high demand days to reduce expensive peak power purchases.
Residential members receive a $30 bill credit each year they participate.
Commercial members receive a rebate of $9 per ton on commercial
systems.
The Cycled Air program now reaches 5,100 homes. During a hot
summer day, United Power can shed over 6.5 MW of high price peak
power saving the utility hundreds of thousands of dollars—a savings
we pass on to participating members through an annual bill credit.

  • 20. Peak Demand Reduction To manage United Power’s growing summer peak, the cooperative began installing load control devices on member air conditioners in 2008. The devices cycle air conditioners on and off for brief intervals during high demand days to reduce expensive peak power purchases. Residential members receive a $30 bill credit each year they participate. Commercial members receive a rebate of $9 per ton on commercial systems. The Cycled Air program now reaches 5,100 homes. During a hot summer day, United Power can shed over 6.5 MW of high price peak power saving the utility hundreds of thousands of dollars—a savings we pass on to participating members through an annual bill credit.
