HMS Edinburgh. Type 42 Destroyer 2009 – Apr 2012
Hull section manager & Propulsion section supervisor
 Accountable to the senior management for the day to day running of the engineering department, which
involved attending management meetings, planning and coordinating out of hour’s maintenance and
decision making.
 Diagnosed faults and supervised maintenance of £17M of propulsion equipment and associated auxiliary
equipment.
 Managed a team of six engineers maintaining and repairing the sewerage treatment plants, high pressure
salt water systems, firefighting systems and all airtight and watertight openings throughout the ship.
 Supervised the maintenance of ship’s electrical systems, ensuring that power was supplied to all systems
at all times whilst following strict health and safety guidelines.
 Monitored a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment during long irregular shift patterns, whilst
also supervising three junior members of the shift.
 Implemented a new maintenance routine for washing gas turbine engines, upon receiving guidance from
senior authorities and provided local training, resulting in a more effective cleaning routine – prolonging the
life of expensive, high profile, essential equipment.
 Monitored planned, preventative and corrective maintenance of key ship’s equipment to ensure the ship
was kept at full operational readiness.
 Controlled and supervised Health & Safety and COSHH issues and documentation, highlighting any issues
that required action to senior management where applicable.
