2. What is Aerodynamics ?
• Aerodynamics is the term of fluid mechanics
and in which study How will effected the fluid
( i.e. Air flow ) body’s movement through flow
.
Aerodynamics in Cars is make the car
how will move easily and minimize the air
friction .
3. Force Analysis on a Automotive Body :-
• Lift
• Drag
• Thrust
• Weight
4. LIFT
It is the sum of all the dynamics forces on a body
normal to the direction of external flow around
the body.
5. Drag
It is the sum of all dynamics forces in the direction of
fluid flow , so it acts opposite to the direction of
object .
6. • Different type shape and
coefficient of drag.
• Effect on automobile body
shape on aerodynamic drag .
7. Weight
It just the weight of the object in motion .It affects the
acceleration of the object.
8. Thrust
Force produced in the opposite direction to drag that is
higher than drag so the body can move through the
fluid (Air) . This force is developed by engine .
9. History
• Aerodynamics has played an important role in
car racing since the late 1960s .
• Engineers are reduce the drag force at high
speed.
Old car Modern car
10. Aerodynamics Design Tips
• Keep the vehicle low to ground .
• Avoid open area.
• The body should be as smooth and continuous
as possible .
• The should be no sharp angles .
• All body panels should have a minimum gap.
• Make use of spoilers.
11. Benefits of Aerodynamically Designed
Cars
• More efficiency .
• More speed (increases performance ) .
• More stability (even at high speed ) .
• Good looking (Design improvement ).
