Beyond the virtual campus: Technologies for virtual learning communitiesSu White
Abstract:
Information and communication technologies have been used formally for many years to build the infrastructure of the virtual campus. However, rich student experiences are a product of both educational and social learning - whether they aske place in the real world or virtually. Like the real world, online communities can flourish and evolve dynamically creating opportunities for social learning which will sustain the learner long after their formal programme of students has officially ended. This presentation will examine the range of different social learning opportunities available and compare the contributions of formal and informal social learning to the growth and sustainability of virtual learning communities
I did this presentation for faculties of Teaching and Learning Resource Center at Feng Chia University. All participants have basic understanding about open course.
The original Baseline was developed after wide consultation on best UCL practice and was endorsed by Academic Committee in September 2011. The Baseline is reviewed annually and the 2016 version is a product of merging the UCL Moodle Baseline with the Student Minimum Entitlement to On-Line Support from the Institute of Education.
The E-Learning Baseline covers two levels of e-learning use:
- Baseline (for campus-based courses 1).
- Baseline+ (in addition to the Baseline, for wholly online courses).
For each of the ten categories there is a description of what is needed to meet the requirements for both levels.

Integrating MOOCs in Traditional Higher Education, by Dr. Diana Andone
Dr. Andrei Ternauciuc, Vlad Mihaescu, Prof.dr. Radu Vasiu
Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania
This paper presents concepts and experiences on integrating MOOCS into traditional higher education in Romania. Three study cases on integrating MOOCs in courses at undergraduate and Master level present and discuss the opportunities in different pedagogical concepts as flipped classroom. These activities require the acquisition of new skills by students and teachers. Advantages and limitations on using this educational model from concepts to management and technology indicate the challenges that lay ahead of educators who are willing to include MOOCs in their everyday teaching activities.

Tim Hart & David Methven, Organisational Change for the On-line World - Steer...museums and the web
A paper from Museums and the Web 2009: http://www.archimuse.com/mw2009/
Abstract:
Museum Victoria is Australia's largest public museums organisation and, as the State Museum for Victoria, it is responsible for the care of the State's collections, conducting research, and providing public access and community engagement for all Victorians. The Museum has a proud 150 year history of scientific and cultural research and collection development. In a relatively large museum organisation like Museum Victoria, you need to ensure you have a common internal sense of purpose before you can entice the world to your on-line experiences. In order to succeed we realised, after some false starts, that we had to lead an extensive consultation process across many levels of the organisation. Outcomes included structural changes, where we consolidated the on-line team , created an on-line steering committee, and created on-line strategic documents endorsed by the Executive Management Team and the Board. This paper will present the challenges we faced in managing the creation of a common on-line strategy and framework at Museum Victoria. We will share the struggles we faced and the compromises we made to create institutional change in a major museum.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Welcome to IT services. We want to help you get the best from our services and keep your IT ducks in a row.
Hopefully most of you will now have your staff username and email account. This is the key information for all our services.
Do choose you password carefully to meet the Password Ruleson your initial letter from IT services.
The simplest way to do this is on an IOE workstation using Control alt delete and follow the usual steps.
You can ALSO use Outlook WEB access which has an option to change password also. Changing your password via the portal is not currently 100% reliable, but we are working to improve this.
You can access your staff email anywhere remembering to put INST backslash before your username and then your password as usual. We recommend not ticking the ‘remember my password’ for security.
The ‘Portal’ is a very useful way to access a range of services when you are outside the IOE. We are currently working to update this very popular service.
We know lots of staff prefer to use their laptops but remember before you first do you need to change your password and always add INST backslash before your individual username.
All staff and students have a personal storage area know as the ‘N’ drive. Staff have a 6 GB limit. The ‘Q’ drive is where you can share files with other staff and the ‘O’ is where you can share files for students.
Before you first use Blackboard you will have to request access via the vle@ioe.ac.uk email. This may well have been done for you. Your Blackboard username and password are the same as your computer account username and password. Next academic year this will be the same for Moodle but currently you will need ask your course administrator for your Moodle access details. We work closely with the Learning Technology Unit who give staff support on the pedagogic aspects of E learning.
There are a range of training and ICT support options available to staff for their own professional development and to enhance their teaching with ICT. We work closely with the Learning Technology Unit to provide support for staff.
There are a range of excellent software guides for Office applications available
We have specialist staff who can give you in depth advice about a range of equipment and services but you can also borrow from the Computer helpdesk in the library.
Please ask for help if you need to. We encourage you to phone our Help Line open 24/7 where a support person can often resolve your issue on the spot.
Finally you can find out more detailed information about our services and support on the IT services website. Follow the Services and IT services tabs. Follow us on Twitter to get the latest updates.
Thank You.Do email me if you want a copy of this presentation but rememberall the information is on our website.
