Overview of Italy Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is one of the most important drivers of the Italian
economy. In 2017, 658,207 units were produced. It is the 7th largest automaker in
the world, 31st in the automotive parts sale and 12th for the exports of automotive
products.
The automotive industry accounts
for 11.65% of the total FDI in Italy.
The total value of Auto Part market
in Italy is $769.4 million.
With a labour force of 1.2 million
direct and indirect workers, the
industry accounts for
approximately 3,500 suppliers and
service providers, of which 885 are
manufacturers of vehicle parts and
components. Forty percent of
Italian exports are from this sector. The Automobile industry of Italy contributed to
approximately 4.5% of the country’s GDP.
Production in Italy, linked strictly to the production of the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles
(FCA) Group and the Volkswagen Group. No other major foreign OEMs is producing in
Italy. The FCA Group, one of the top 10 players in the world has cut their production in
the last decade. Italy is one of the countries badly affected by the crisis.
Poland and Brazil are becoming major production locations for the Italian automaker
globally. The substantial investment of FIAT in Serbia, the Kragujevac plant, will make
what was once purely Italian production more globalized.

Forty percent of Italian exports are from this sector. The Automobile industry of Italy contributed to approximately 4.5% of the country’s GDP. Production in Italy, linked strictly to the production of the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Group and the Volkswagen Group. No other major foreign OEMs is producing in Italy. The FCA Group, one of the top 10 players in the world has cut their production in the last decade. Italy is one of the countries badly affected by the crisis. Poland and Brazil are becoming major production locations for the Italian automaker globally. The substantial investment of FIAT in Serbia, the Kragujevac plant, will make what was once purely Italian production more globalized. Section 1 AT A GLANCE 1. 2017 Production: 742,642 passenger cars and 399,568 commercial vehicles. 2. The industry employs 1.2 million direct and indirect workers. 3.
