 The term Islamization was first used in 1940.
 Islamization [Islamisation]: The erasure of
the customs, norms and laws of any country or
region in order to purely reflect Islamic
sentiment.
 Another development is that of transnational
Islam, elaborated upon by the French Islam
researchers Gilles Keppel and Olivier Roy. It
includes a feeling of a "growing universalistic
Islamic identity" as often shared by Muslim
immigrants and their children who live in non-
 "The increased integration of world societies as a
result of enhanced communications, media, travel,
and migration makes meaningful the concept of a
single Islam practiced everywhere in similar ways,
and an Islam which transcends national and
ethnic customs.
 Majority of worldwide Muslim wants democracy
embedded with Islam and Sharia.
In contemporary usage, it may refer to the
perceived imposition of an Islamist social
and political system on a society with an
indigenously different social and political
background.
 Modern day Islamization appears to be a return of
the individual to Muslim values, communities, and
dress codes, and a strengthened community.
 We are The social scientists, attempting
to Islamize a body of existing
knowledge called “the social sciences”.
 Study about society in Islamic
Perspective.
 Islamic role in the society.
The Engagement Approach
The Disengagement Approach
 Believe that, Important role to play in the Islamization
process. Consist of theories, methodologies, practical
findings.
 Serious examination of its explicit or implicit underlying.
Ontological, axiological, and epistemological assumptions.
 Rigorous criticism of all of the above from the Islamic
perspective.
 Examination of the validity of this integrated knowledge
with reference to the real world
Disengagement Approach
The flaws in the basic logic and structure of
modern social science renders it useless.
If not outright dangerous, for the Islamization
effort.
Argue that modern social science is the
product of the “modern” era of the
predominant Western Civilization.
An era that is basically materialist, secular,
and anti-religion.
Modern social science shares the same Western
worldview.
It has grown since the 1980s.
poverty has risen and fighting with Israel began in 2000.
End of secularism and heresy in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas forcefully seized control of the area in June
2007
The Gaza Strip has exhibited the characteristics
of Talibanization.
Gaza stepped up its efforts to "Islamize" Gaza in 2010.
 Creation of favorable atmosphere.
 Reforms in information media.
 Making of International Islamic University
Islamabad.
 Reorientation of education policy:
 The government of Zia created such an
atmosphere where acting upon Islam was
appreciated and opposing Islam was disliked
and disapproved. In the regard his personal
example played an important role. He himself
acted upon Islamic injunctions, performed Umra
annually, offered prayers regularly five times
and his speeches or the lectures he used to
deliver reflected his devotion to Islam.
 His fist major step was that he introduced
reforms in media. The promotion of music
and dancing was prohibited and instead
reformatory programs were introduced. Azan
was aired at prayers time. Hajj rites were
broadcast live on television and Hajj sermon
could also be heard on radio. For some time
T.V program were stopped during Iftar time.
 To do research in fiqh and principles of
Sharia and some other disciplines, Islamic
International University was set up in
Islamabad.
 To inculcate Islamic thinking in students,
general Zia ordered to review all textbooks
and anything repugnant to Islam and to the
ideology of Pakistan was deleted. Islamiat
and Pakistan studies were made compulsory
and were introduced in all sorts of
educational institutions.
Asadullah Khan
 The Iranian Revolution (also known as the Islamic
Revolution or the 1979 Revolution.
 The White Revolution started in the early 1960s in an
effort to limit popular support for socialism. At the same
time and for the same reasons, the regime did not
inhibit the spread of support for Islam.
 This was because, for the most part, the Islamists had
been cooperated by the regime and the United States
had adopted a policy of supporting Islamists to stand
against the Soviet Union and the spread of socialist
ideas.
 This support continued up until the 1980s and the time
of the Taliban, which were financed and trained by the
United States.
 It refers to events involving the overthrow of the
Pahlavi dynasty under Mohammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi, who was supported by the United States.
 It eventual replacement with an Islamic republic
under the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the
leader of the revolution, supported by various
leftist and Islamic organizations and Iranian
student movements.
 Brutality
 Oppressiveness
 Corruption
 Extravagant
 Basic financial failure
 Jalal Al-e-Ahmad's idea of Gharbzadegi that
Western culture was an intoxication to be
eliminated
 Ali Shariati's vision of Islam as the one true
liberator of the Third World from oppressive
colonialism, neocolonialism, and capitalism
 This idea of rule by Islamic jurists was
spread through his book Islamic
Government, mosque sermons, smuggled
cassette speeches by Khomeini
 On January 7, 1978, an article ("Iran and
the Red and Black Colonialism") appeared in
the national daily Ettela'at newspaper.
Written under a pseudonym by a
government agent, it denounced Khomeini
as a "British agent" and a "mad Indian poet"
conspiring to sell out Iran to neo-colonialists
and communists.
 1982 Khomeini and his supporters had
crushed the rival factions, defeated local
rebellions and consolidated power.
 Khomeini told questioners things like "the religious
dignitaries do not want to rule."
 Views differ on the impact of the revolution.
For some it was "the most significant,
hopeful and profound event in the entirety of
contemporary Islamic history,". while other
Iranians believe that the revolution was a
time when "for a few years we all lost our
minds“ and which "promised us heaven,
but... created a hell on earth."
Yasir Rafiq Khan
This is an amazing prophetic miracle, the
prophet himself tells us about the rapid
spread of Islam and that this religion will
cover all parts of glob.
 Today there are more than 4200 religions in
the world! The statistics say that Islam is the
fastest religion spreading among all religions
in the world! In 1999 the number of Muslims
were 1200 million in the world. But now
Islam spreading in all continents of the world.
In 1997 in Asia 780 millions, Africa 308
million Europe 32 million, 7 million in
America etc.
 According to this research, America now has
about 1,209 mosques, most of which
constructed very recently. Thirty percent of
these mosques were built in the 1990s, and
32 percent were built in the 1980s. Other
statistics shows that in 1994, the total
number of mosques in America was 962;
2000, there was a 25% increase in this
number.
