This document compares Islamic art to Christian and Buddhist art through examples of different works. It shows a painting of the Lamentation by Giotto, a detail from the North Rose window of Chartres Cathedral, a 15th century seated Buddha statue from Thailand, the tiled exterior of the Friday Mosque of Herat in Afghanistan, a 14th century Turkish rug with confronted animals, 11th century Kufic script from a Qur'an, and a 16th century Persian miniature painting depicting Muhammad's night journey to heaven.
