This document summarizes a new music startup in India called Iret. It is a group of 6 people with expertise in electronics engineering, sound engineering, and industrial design who are passionate about music. Their goal is to make high quality musical instruments more affordable and accessible to musicians in India. Iret has developed a line of premium stompbox effects pedals that provide international quality at a lower cost than major brands. Their products are being used by top Indian musicians and helping address the challenges musicians face in being able to afford quality instruments.

As per the report, an integral part of the Indian retail space is the Musical Instruments (MI) market,
which has witnessed tremendous surge in business in the recent past. With the majority of population
below 34 years, coupled with increasing adoption of western music, ready availability of the western
music instruments, digitalization of most of the instruments and decreasing costs to buyers are some
of the key factors that has driven the Indian MI market upwards.
The active population in India is about 500 million and the educated youth who can afford a musical
instrument is 200 million. This youth is westernised and learning western musical instruments and
appearing for the Trinity Guild, and into the band culture and Bollywood. Bands are mushrooming
with performances complimenting the DJs for similar audiences. Add the retail equation and you have
a market you cannot ignore!

find it tough to survive?
To set up a band with performance capabilities,one has to an invest Rs. 5 lakhs in instruments alone. With so much talent in the
country, the high price of instruments restricts the musicians from exploring more. They are killing the dreams of thousands of
musicians every year. While international bands are rolling in the millions, Indian bands say survival is tough.

With the increase in demand for western musical instruments, Indian MI merchants are no longer dependent on
the sales of Indian musical instruments to sustain their business. All of these factors have culminated to create a
huge potential for overall growth in the future.
Northern & Western India have together contributed over 61% of the total volume sales of MI instruments.
Though statistics suggest that a major chunk of sales & revenue has been derived major metropolitans, it can’t be
denied that sales contributions from tier-2 & tier-3 cities are also growing at a rapid pace. Construing this,
strategic increase in imports of MI has been observed in 2011-2012.
Globalisation has impacted India in radical ways over the past
three decades, and shades of its effects are markedly visible in
the leaps of progress the retail market has witnessed within this
time frame. Greater revenue figures translating into increased
disposable income, India’s retail market is touted to rise over

Tube amps- a type of high end electronic amplifier used by top musicians
that makes use of vacuum tubes to increase the amplitude
Pedalboards- a flat board or panel which serves as a container, patch bay
and power supply for effects pedals for the electric guitar.
Cajón- A percsusion instrument used to replicate the sound of a drum.
