IPv6 deployment in the last 5 years
• Let’s look at the data from the APNIC Labs and see what
has been changed in last 5 years.
• The world is now on 32% IPv6 capability while this figure
was on 18% in 2018.
• The following 2 slides show the economies which their IPv6
capability is larger than 1%. The number was up from 64
economies in 2018 to 117 economies in 2022.

IPv6 Deployment and Roadmap for Mongolia
• In 2018, ITU and APNIC cooperated with CRC, conducted face-to-
face meetings with ISPs/Telcos/Academia in Mongolia, developed
an “IPv6 Deployment and Roadmap for Mongolia”.

IPv6 Technical Training in Mongolia
• IPv6 Deployment and IPv6 Security Workshop was held in
Ulaanbaatar in partnership with CRC, ITU and APNIC in 2018.

Where are we today?
• We haven’t seen significant IPv6 deployment in Mongolia
yet.
• Some networks have tried to deploy IPv6 on their backbone
network, there is lack of deployment to end users (access
network).

What is going to happen if the world has moved to IPv6 but Mongolia is still on IPv4?
22. 22
22
Improve IPv6 connections
• Encourage networks to mirror their IPv4 for their IPv6
peering (as well as testing/enabling IPv6 for all upstream
transit connections)
• Get your IPv6 if your organisation have not received IPv6
addresses from APNIC
– There are 20 APNIC members have not requested IPv6 addresses
yet, out of the 52 APNIC members who have IPv4 space.
24. 24
24
Get IPv6 addresses from APNIC is easy
• If you are an APNIC member and have IPv4 addresses, you
can login to MyAPNIC and just “One Click” to automatically
receive your IPv6 addresses.
– If you have IPv4 allocation, you will receive a /32 IPv6 allocation
– If you have IPv4 assignment, you will receive a /48 IPv6 assignment
• If you are not an APNIC member, you can submit a
membership and resource application via APNIC website
– https://www.apnic.net/get-ip/get-ip-addresses-asn/

25
Technical and financial supports
• APNIC is ready to provide technical training and technical
assistance for IPv6 deployment.
• APNIC Foundation and the Information Society Innovation
Fund (ISIF Asia) can provide financial support.
– https://isif.asia/infrastructure-ipv6/ (The IPv6 Deployment Grants)
• More IPv6 information on APNIC website
