Field application: DHCP
Application and requirements.
In buses different systems such as video surveillance,
passenger information, control unit, ticket validator or
passenger counting systems must be interconnected.
The configuration of the IP addresses has to be
automatic to have minimum installation time and
costs in case of a repair in the shop floor. After a
replacement the new IP device must automatically get
the same IP address as the previous one.
Solution and product.
For the automatic IP address configuration we
recommend to use the ROQSTAR Managed Switches
as a DHCP server. The Switch assigns IP addresses
from an IP address pool to all connected devices. To
set static IP addresses based on the connected port
the DHCP port based is used. In a simple table you
can assign your IP addresses to a defined Ethernet
port on the Switch.

In Public Transport vehicles, space and costs are a
premium. Cables are heavy and expensive and also
space consuming. More so in articulated Buses,
Trolleybuses or Trams. With the evolving E-Buses,
weight is also critical. To meet those requirements you
can use the Power over Ethernet technology.
Solution and product.
PoE allows you to transfer data and power supply
your IP devices through the same cable. By using PoE
Switches you need only one cable for data and power
of your IP devices. The ROQSTAR PoE Switches are
powered with 24 VDC and have an integrated DC/DC
booster to generate the PoE voltage.

Field application: VLAN
Application and requirements.
In tramways different IP based components such as
video surveillance systems or passenger counting
sensors must be interconnected. Video applications
demand high network performance, every second
of a potential crime must be recorded. Therefore the
network must be separated from all other functions to
get a higher network availability.
Solution and product.
With Virtual LANs (VLANs) a physical connected system
can be devided into logical groups. To perform the
network segmentation a Managed Ethernet Switch is
needed such as ROQSTAR Managed Switches. With
VLANs it is possible to segment different IP devices into
several separated logical groups. Only devices in the
same group are able to communicate with each other.

IP based components such as passenger counting
and passenger information systems are getting more
common in tramways. It is usefull to build clusters as
subnetworks and make the IP configuration easier. So
the requirements are to segment networks and to build
subnetworks that have the same IP configuration.
Solution and product.
A cost effective way to realize such a network is to use
Managed Ethernet Switches. For the communication
within a subnetwork a layer 2 Switch like ROQSTAR
Full Managed Switch can be used. To implement the
communication between identical subnetworks a
Switch with NAT functionality is needed.
