The Invisible Man tells the story of a man who has made himself invisible and is now unable to return to his normal state. He keeps his invisibility a secret by wearing bandages on his face and goggles. During an argument with a woman named Mrs. Hall, he removes his disguise, revealing that he is invisible. He forces a man named Mr. Marvel to help him by carrying his notes and stolen money. As the Invisible Man grows more unstable, he steals, kills people, and vandalizes property. After being shot, he hides at the home of his old friend Dr. Kemp. When the authorities learn of his whereabouts, they work to track down and capture the dangerous Invisible Man.

2. Biography
H.G. Wells
Herbert George Wells was born in Bromley on Sept. 21st 1866. He was
the son of a poor salesman. He was educated at a primary school in his
neighborhood. Then he got a scholarship to the School of Science.
Upon graduating from the School of Science, he spent a few years
teaching and writing at Midhurst Grammar School. Subsequently Wells took a
job at the School of Science teaching Biology. Although Wells had a good first
year, the second year he was disappointed in the teaching, so he left his job
and began focusing more on his writing.
Wells first two books were The Time Machine and The Island of Dr.
Morereau. Wells became famous in the U.S. for the War of the Worlds book
and later wrote more well known literary works.

3. Summary
This book is about a man that has made himself invisible in order to escape, and can’t go back to normal. He keeps
the fact that he is invisible secret. The Invisible Man’s face is covered with rags and his eyes are covered by goggles. A
women named Mrs. Hall was arguing with the Invisible Man. During the argument he removes his goggles, face rags, and
fake nose and she notices he is invisible. The Invisible Man gets Mr. Marvel to help him. Mr. Marvel carries the Invisible
Man’s notes and the Invisible Man thinks he also has the stolen money. The Invisible Man has stolen things, killed people,
and vandalized places. After being shot, the Invisible Man hide in a house that ends up belonging to an old college friend,
Dr. Kemp. While in the house, the Invisible Man pins Dr. Kemp in his bed. The Invisible Man tells Dr. Kemp that his name is
Griffin and reminds him that he is an old friend from the university college and tells him that he is wounded and near death.
The Invisible Man is tired and asks Dr. Kemp to help him and not capture him while he sleeps. Dr. Kemp agrees to help him.
When the Invisible Man wakes, he tells Dr. Kemp that he made himself invisible for protection. While they are talking, the
Invisible Man hears something; realizing that Dr. Kemp has betrayed him, he slips away. When Colonel Adye arrives, Kemp
tells him to have everyone lock up their food so that the Invisible Man can’t regain his strength and he can be hunted down.
Kemp also suggests using dogs, as they can track his scent. Will they ever catch the Invisible Man? Will the Invisible Man get

Main Characters
• Invisible Man - The Invisible Man, whose real name is Griffin, is invisible, very dark, and
not friendly to anyone. When he got mad at people, he started to hurt them. He also
stole from people and damaged other property (Coach of Horses).
• Mr. Marvel - Mr. Marvel is a weak person who, after being threatened, helps the Invisible
Man by holding his notes and stolen money. Marvel is scared of the invisible man.
• Dr. Kemp – Kemp is a scientist. Dr. Kemp notices dry blood on the carpet in his house, on
his bed, and a hanging clothe in mid air that has blood on it. After seeing the floating
bloody clothe, he realized the blood belonged to the Invisible Man. When the Invisible
Man sleeps he tries to capture him.
• Col. Adye - Adye is going to try to capture the Invisible man. During his hunt of the
Invisible man, he gets shot by him.
Supporting Characters
• Mrs. Hall - Mrs. Hall let the Invisible Man stay in her house, but she didn’t know that he
was invisible. Later, at the Coach of Horses, they got into a fight and the Invisible Man
said “you don’t know who I am” and removed his pretend nose and goggles, showing
that he was invisible.
• Mr. Huxter - While he was searching for the Invisible Man, he got hurt by him, but can’t
describe what happened to him at that time.

5. Plot
Introduction- The invisible man is trying to stay alive, so he steals and hurts people that are mean to him.
Rising Action- The Invisible Man is trying to keep a low profile because if anyone finds out he is invisible, he will
be hunted.
Climax- The climax begins when the Invisible Man becomes really mad and goes on a rampage hurting people
for no reason.
Falling Action- The people start locking up their food, begin to hunt the Invisible Man, and get dogs to track
him, so he can’t escape or leave to make problems in other places.
Conclusion- They catch the Invisible Man, but the excited mob accidentally kills him. The People were happy
that this terror was put down.

9. Rating
I gave this book four and a half stars because it was creative, detailed and
descriptive. The only thing I did not care for in the book was the use of different
dialect or words that differed from ones we use today.

10. Bonus slide
This book reminds me of the Harry Potter books, because the bad guys are hard to capture.
It also reminds me of The War of the Worlds (same author) because townspeople are getting killed and are
scared of the main character in each of the books.
