Today, we take it for granted that our mobile devices and applications just work out of the box — smartphones can roam virtually anywhere in the world, laptops can seamlessly connect to any Wi-Fi access point & Bluetooth peripheral, and the videos recorded on one device can be played back perfectly on any other device. The magic behind all this? Technology standards. Not only do they power a wide range of systems and devices but also bring many benefits to the broader technology ecosystem. At Qualcomm Technologies, we are leading the standardization of many key technologies that will move the world forward. Download this presentation to learn: - The value of technology standards, specifically in the areas of cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and video codecs - Why standardized technologies are essential for industry growth and ecosystem development - How standard bodies operate in a complex, challenging, and ever changing environment - How Qualcomm is driving innovation in different technology standards

This talk explored the process of building and deploying the first Linux Foundation ISO standard in fourteen years, highlighting both what has changed since we deployed Linux Standard Base, and why formal standardization is a topic that will increasingly be on your radar. The discussion will be primarily focused on OpenChain, the industry standard for open source compliance, and how collaboration with the Joint Development Foundation allowed a transformation from de facto into formal standard in a timescale that suits open source development. The lessons learned are applicable to any projects building out specifications or code that seek worldwide, sustainable adoption across multiple industries, and the presentation will include an explanation of how Linux Foundation and Joint Development Foundation are ready to support that process today.

In this session, we will discuss the journey of API governance from its initial, ungoverned state to the development of sophisticated models that tackle contemporary challenges. We'll explore how APIs have become essential in the intersection of business and technology, adapting to advancements and evolving needs. We'll focus on how organizations have moved from launching to monetizing APIs, using models like pay-per-use and subscriptions, and finding the right balance between technical implementation and business strategy. We'll also highlight the impact of governance on monetization strategies, especially how data security, compliance, and service quality influence pricing. Real-world examples will demonstrate the effective integration of governance with monetization, including AI's role in dynamic pricing. Looking ahead, we'll share insights into future trends in API governance and monetization, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and innovation.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. In the ever-evolving landscape of data management, Zero-ETL is an approach that is reshaping how businesses handle and integrate their data. This webinar explores Zero-ETL, a paradigm shift from the traditional Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process, offering a more streamlined, efficient, and real-time data integration method. We will begin with an introduction to the concept of Zero-ETL, including how it allows direct access to data in its native environment and real-time data transformation, providing up-to-date information with significantly reduced data redundancy. Next, we'll take you through several demonstrations showing how Zero-ETL can deliver real-time data and enable the free movement of data between systems. We will also discuss the various tools that support all aspects of Zero-ETL, providing attendees with an understanding of how they can adopt this innovative approach in their organizations. Lastly, the session will conclude with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing participants to gain deeper insights into how Zero-ETL can be tailored to their specific business needs and how they can get started today. Join us to discover how Zero-ETL can elevate your organization's data strategy.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. At its core, the challenge of managing Human Resources data is an integration challenge: estimates range from 2-3 HR systems in use at a typical SMB, up to a few dozen systems implemented amongst enterprise HR departments, and these systems seldom integrate seamlessly between themselves. Providing a multi-tenant, cloud-native solution to integrate these hundreds of HR-related systems, normalize their disparate data models and then render that consolidated information for stakeholder decision making has been a substantial undertaking, but one significantly eased by leveraging Ballerina. In this session, we’ll cover: The overall software architecture for VHR’s Cloud Data Platform Critical decision points leading to adoption of Ballerina for the CDP Ballerina’s role in multiple evolutionary steps to the current architecture Roadmap for the CDP architecture and plans for Ballerina WSO2’s partnership in bringing continual success for the CD
