2. Welcome to AD 211 P Architecture and Public Art for your B.Ed in Art and
Design course
Mrs Malini Callimootoo Jeewon has been teaching Art and Design for more
than one decade in different state secondary schools. As a registered
Mauritian artist, she has a dedicated network of artists locally and
internationally and she regularly contributes to the National cause of
promoting art as an expression of cultural richness for the country. She
graduated from the University of Mauritius, University of South Africa and
completed her M.Ed. at the University of Southern Queensland. She joined
the MIE as a full-time Lecturer after having worked as a resource person
and panel member for the Grade 7 Visual Arts textbook. She also acts as a
Project Facilitator through IEARN (a non-profit organization made up of
over 30,000 schools and youth organizations in more than 140 countries)
where she connects with educators and youth across iEARN's network. She
is also an active member of the Microsoft Innovative Educator Network
since 2016 .Thus, she is engaged in programs recognizing global educator
visionaries who are using technology to pave the way for their peers for
better learning and student outcomes with members at the international
level.
3. COURSE
TITLE:
ARCHITECTU
RE AND
PUBLIC ART
Course Description: Art activities related to
model making are integrated into the Art
and Design curriculum. In this module,
students will develop an appreciation of a
range of Public Arts and different
architectural styles through exposure to the
local and international contexts. They will
use art conventions, techniques, and
processes in providing visual solutions for
planning and designing 3D architectural
models. Students will also identify
appropriate methods and strategies in
teaching and assessing model-making. The
module will provide students with
opportunities to develop an understanding
and application of the basic principles and
concepts of Architecture and Public Art
4. Learning objectives: The learners in this course are
expected to be able to:
(LO 1) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding
of the key concepts, and characteristics of a range of
Architecture and Public Art.
(LO 2) Utilise acquired knowledge and technical
skills to solve problems specific to Architecture and
Public Art.
(LO 3) Express clearly and coherently own
understanding, perspective and interpretation of
Architecture and Public Art.
(LO 4) Plan art activities related to model making.
5. The flow of this online course uses a mix of
asynchronous (not live/own time), and
synchronous (live/real-time) learning activities.
This course will have regular weekly or fortnight
assignments due, scheduled live class sessions
(via TEAMS), weekly text discussions via the
course discussion forums, as well as readings and
course materials that each of student is required
to keep on top of each week. This is not a self-
paced course. Each student must manage their
own time each week, to know when assignments
are due, and any other weekly course obligations,
and all students move through the course
together each week. This will involve regularly
logging into the online learning systems to check
forums, communications, monitor your MIE
email address, and virtually interact with
classmates, team members, instructors, and
course materials.
6. Throughout the course, you can expect to
participate in polls, quizzes, tests, and assignments
designed to assess your understanding and
encourage active participation. Additionally, we'll
emphasize online collaboration and social learning,
providing opportunities for discussion, peer
feedback, and group projects. By leveraging these
tools and techniques, we aim to foster a dynamic
learning environment where you can explore,
engage, and connect with your fellow students
while delving into the captivating world of
