Muhammad Yunus is considered a pioneer in social entrepreneurship. He founded the Grameen Bank in 1983 to provide microcredit loans to the poor in Bangladesh, helping millions become financially self-sufficient. For this work establishing microfinance, Yunus received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. He later co-founded Yunus Social Business to create and support social businesses addressing global social problems. Through Grameen Bank and other ventures, Yunus has improved lives and helped lift millions of families out of poverty around the world.
