What Makes Dyson Hoovers So Special?
Dyson are clearly perceived as the leaders in the vacuum cleaner market place. Their products have
a perception of quality and are loaded with modern technology which other manufacturers can only
attempt to copy to keep up.
Quick side note! I use the term 'hoover' and 'vacuum' interchangeably here and know that hoover is
a brand name. But to 'hoover' is a colloquialism in the UK and means to 'vacuum'.
With this comes a higher price tag, but also improved performance. But what makes Dyson hoovers
so special?
To start with you need to look at how they work.
Cyclone Technology
Inside each Dyson hoover is a series of small cyclones which causes the air to spin at a
tremendous velocity. This causes even the smallest of dust and dirt particles to be flung
out of the air and collected inside the vacuum cleaner. The end result is superior suction
and vastly improved cleaning performance. This technology is called 'root cyclone
technology' and is patented by Dyson.
It now forms the benchmark of how vacuum cleaners are constructed and it is so
successful that virtually every hoover company has attempted to copy this technology –
just without infringing on Dyson's patents! (So it is never as good!)
Ball Technology
Despite being a recently new technology, the ball at the base of
Dyson upright and cylinder hoovers has proved quite popular. It
allows the device to be manoeuvred much more easily (over using
fixed position wheels) and allows it to effectively 'glide' between
furniture.
In addition to helping with manoeuvrability it also helps keep the
profile of the device smaller. The reason for this is because the
ball is home to most of the technology which powers the hoover.
This prevents the need for it to have a large case or for this
technology to be shown on the outside of the device. The end
result is a much more streamlined case which can fit into smaller
spaces.
V6 Motors
It is important to note that V6 motors are a feature found
in hand-held and cordless models and not Dysons mains
powered hoovers. This is because it is a small, yet
powerful motor which is aimed to provide exceptional
cleaning in battery powered devices.
This motor is powerful because it uses what is known as
'rare-earth' magnets which are so powerful they can crush
or pinch body parts which become sandwiched between
them. They are, however, safe inside the machine and not
large enough to cause damage. But what they do provide
is the ability to help the motor rotate at up to 110,000
times per minute.
The only downside to this particular technology is that is
it very power hungry and you can typically only get
around 20 minutes of cleaning time in-between charges.
I hope this guide has served to provide a basic introduction into Dyson hoovers and what sets them
apart from their competitors.
