INTRODUCING NIGCOMSAT 1-R 3

Nigcomsat-1R is Nigeria's replacement communications satellite, launched in 2011. It is a quad-band satellite located at 42.5 degrees east with 28 transponders and a lifespan of at least 15 years. Its footprint covers West, East, and Southern Africa, Europe, and Asia. It provides telecommunications services through C-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, and L-band payloads and is controlled through ground stations in Abuja, Nigeria and Kashi, China.

Star One provides satellite services including DTH, VSAT, cellular backhaul, and broadband internet to Brazil and other Latin American countries from its satellite control centers.

- 2. NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED. (NIGCOMSAT) NIGCOMSAT is a government owned limited liability Company duly registered and incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the laws of Nigeria in 2006. It has its offices at Obasanjo Space Centre, Umaru Musa Yar’adua Way, Abuja. The main objective of NIGCOMSAT is to design, launch and operate satellites.
- 3. A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF NIGCOMSAT 1-R. On the 19th of December, 2011, NIGCOMSAT launched its replacement satellite, NIGCOMSAT – 1R in China. NIGCOMSAT-1R is a quad band satellite with 28 transponders located at 42.5 degrees East, with a life span of at least15 years and foot prints in West, East & Southern Africa, Europe & Asia. It is designed to provide cutting edge telecommunications solutions that are both reliable and cost-effective. NIGCOMSAT-1R communications sub-system consists of C-band, Ku band, Ka band and L band.
- 4. NIGCOMSAT 1R: STRUCTURE Nigcomsat-1R satellite is designed to guarantee that each RF channel maintains its specified requirements through out its service life. Nigcomsat-1R is based on DFH-4 platform. Its structure supports seven (7) on board antennas which includes two deployable shaped dual reflector antennas for Ku-band ECOWAS-1 and ECOWAS-2, three (3) fixed reflector antennas in which two are for Ka-band transmit and receive beams while the third is for C-band ECOWAS-1 beam.
- 5. NIGCOMSAT 1-R PHYSICAL DESIGN IN BEFORE LAUNCH.
- 7. C- BAND PAYLOAD SUMMARY The C-band payload has four channel with a bandwidth of 36MHz each. It consists of channel filters to provide input multiplexers for transmission, path separation and output multiplexers for establishing a means of combining RF signals at the appropriate transmit antenna. The input section has a receive beam on one polarization.
- 8. C-BAND PAYLOAD FREQUENCY AND POLARIZATION PLAN.
- 9. L- BAND PAYLOAD SUMMARY The navigation payload provides a C-band receive beam covering minimally northern Africa & Europe with a 2:1 receiver redundancy. This payload is equipped with an input multiplexer to provide two separate transmission paths for two navigational signals, as well as two separate L-band downlink carrier and an output multiplexer to provide a means of combining both navigational signals for transmission.
- 10. NAVIGATION PAYLOAD FREQUENCY AND POLARIZATION PLAN.
- 11. KU-BAND SUMMARY. The Ku-band payload consists of fourteen (14) active channels, with bandwidth of 31.5MHz each & three fixed beams over East Africa, West Africa & Kashi.
