Nigcomsat-1R is Nigeria's replacement communications satellite, launched in 2011. It is a quad-band satellite located at 42.5 degrees east with 28 transponders and a lifespan of at least 15 years. Its footprint covers West, East, and Southern Africa, Europe, and Asia. It provides telecommunications services through C-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, and L-band payloads and is controlled through ground stations in Abuja, Nigeria and Kashi, China.
