The document outlines several student performance indicators related to using technology to complete projects on various topics:
1) Producing a digital story about a local event using interviews and multimedia editing software.
2) Creating an advertisement for a healthy diet by illustrating a poem about vegetable gardening and incorporating the illustrations.
3) Conducting a science experiment on weather trends using graphing software and online resources to create charts and find multimedia about weather worldwide.
4) Debating the effects of technology on individuals, society, and communities by conducting a poll and discussing ethical considerations and impacts of new technologies.

Ubicomp+Sustainability October 2015, Keynote at euc2015Adrian Friday
ICT itself now accounts for 10% of global energy demand - and climbing - controlling this impact is not yet a factor in systems design or in most CS curricula. I’m drawn by Computer Science's potential for addressing large scale societal challenges, such as climate change. In this talk I firstly offer a glimpse at the insights for Ubicomp and human-computer system design through the lens of our recent studies of energy use in the home, and of mobile data demand; and secondly, discuss ways in which we might evolve such systems to more profoundly challenge ‘the normal way’ energy is used.
Have you ever dreamed of teaching a pre-calculus level course where the algebraic manipulation is de-emphasized and the emphasis is shifted to conceptual understanding and practical skills that directly apply to transfer classes? Learn how your wishes can come true by making simple changes around curriculum, pedagogy, and technology.

SIDLIT Open Forum: Suggested Educational AppsJonathan Bacon
For this open forum, we asked: Have you ever seen a fascinating app or online tool demonstrated but you’re not sure how to use it in the classroom? In this forum, the facilitator (Jonathan Bacon) will share a few ideas and then open the floor for participants to share ideas (either ones you’ve put into practice or ideas you’d like to try) using the resources (tools, apps, websites) discovered on your own or encountered at SIDLIT (the Summer Institute on Distance Learning and Instructional Technology). The suggested apps are all included in this document.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Watch the video “Inside the White House: The Garden” with Michelle Obama at www.whitehouse.gov/. Research the history of vegetable gardening at the White House. Begin with Thomas Jefferson’s development of crop diversity and crop rotation techniques. Include the Victory Garden movement initiated by Eleanor Roosevelt and the vegetable garden developed by Michelle Obama in your study. Create an original poem or jingle on some aspect of vegetable gardening. In the ad, comment on the impact of vegetable gardening on a healthy dietary regime. The advertisement could be time specific, i.e., an ad about a vegetable that might have grown in Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden. Share the ads and an accompanying recipe with your classmates. Have a “Vegies Make Good Eats” day on the day of the ad previews. Extended assignment: each student prepares a recipe featuring the vegetable in their ad for their family; plant a vegetable garden at school; volunteer activity – plant a community vegetable garden.
Add a creative border, convert your document to a pdf file, and post on the class blog.
Conduct simultaneous weather studies with students around the world online through epals for a period of one month. Further sites to explore for graphics, sound or video clips, images: The Weather Channel (www.weather.com/), Accu Weather (www.acuweather.com/), and weather Online (www.weatheronline.com/). Also look at Dan’s Wild Wild Weather Page (a television meteorologist’s interactive site) at www.whnt19.com/kidwx/. A connection to digital weather instruments from Oregon Scientific Weather Stations and Atomic Clocks is located at http://www.weatherconnect.com/. Oregon Scientific makes: (1) Rain Gauage with Indoor/Outdoor thermometer for $39.99; and (2) Full Wireless Weather Station with wind sensor, rain gauage, temperature-humidity sensor, and two additional optional channels for $119.95. This weather station measures and displays: temperature (indoor/outdoor), humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, wind chill, barometric pressure, daily/cumulative rainfall/precipitation, and UV index (optional addition).
Use GraphPower, Database, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Multimedia-authoring to collect and present data. Set up a discussion board (?) on Facebook.
