THESE BASIC RULES CAN HELP YOU TO
 MAXIMIZE POTENTIAL EMPLOYMENT
         OPPORTUNITIES.
1. ARRIVE EARLY FOR THE INTERVIEW

 ARRIVE 10- 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE APPOINTED
 TIME. ARRIVING TOO EARLY CONFUSES THE
 EMPLOYER AND CREATES AN AWKWARD
 SITUATION. ARRIVING LATE CREATES A BAD
 FIRST IMPRESSION. BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE
 INTERVIEW ASK FOR DIRECTIONS.
2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE
            INTERVIEW

THERE IS NO GETTING
AROUND IT. IN EVERY JOB
INTERVIEW, YOU ARE
GOING TO BE JUDGED - AT
LEAST PARTIALLY-BY HOW
YOU LOOK.
2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE
       INTERVIEW CONTINUED
AN INTERVIEW IS NOT THE
PLACE TO MAKE A FASHION
STATEMENT. IT IS IMPORTANT
TO SELECT THE APPROPRIATE
CLOTHING.

FOR EXAMPLE: A SUIT IS THE
UNIFORM FOR A SALES
INTERVIEW. CONSERVATIVE
COLORS IN VARIOUS SHADES
OF BLUE AND GRAY ARE BEST.
3. BE POSITIVE

EMPLOYERS DO NOT WANT TO HEAR A LIST OR
SERIES OF EXCUSES OR BAD FEELINGS ABOUT A
NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE. IF YOU ARE ASKED
ABOUT A SUDDEN JOB CHANGE, OR A WEAKNESS
IN YOUR BACKGROUND, DO NOT BE DEFENSIVE.

  • 1. ELEVEN RULES FOR INTERVIEW SUCCESS
  • 2. JOB INTERVIEWS ARE BUSINESS EVENTS WHERE YOUR TALENTS ARE EVALUATED. THEY ARE ALSO YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO EVALUATE HOW THE COMPANY’S CULTURE COMPLEMENTS YOUR VALUES.
  • 3. THESE BASIC RULES CAN HELP YOU TO MAXIMIZE POTENTIAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.
  • 4. 1. ARRIVE EARLY FOR THE INTERVIEW ARRIVE 10- 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE APPOINTED TIME. ARRIVING TOO EARLY CONFUSES THE EMPLOYER AND CREATES AN AWKWARD SITUATION. ARRIVING LATE CREATES A BAD FIRST IMPRESSION. BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE INTERVIEW ASK FOR DIRECTIONS.
  • 5. 2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE INTERVIEW THERE IS NO GETTING AROUND IT. IN EVERY JOB INTERVIEW, YOU ARE GOING TO BE JUDGED - AT LEAST PARTIALLY-BY HOW YOU LOOK.
  • 6. 2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE INTERVIEW CONTINUED AN INTERVIEW IS NOT THE PLACE TO MAKE A FASHION STATEMENT. IT IS IMPORTANT TO SELECT THE APPROPRIATE CLOTHING. FOR EXAMPLE: A SUIT IS THE UNIFORM FOR A SALES INTERVIEW. CONSERVATIVE COLORS IN VARIOUS SHADES OF BLUE AND GRAY ARE BEST.
  • 7. 3. BE POSITIVE EMPLOYERS DO NOT WANT TO HEAR A LIST OR SERIES OF EXCUSES OR BAD FEELINGS ABOUT A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE. IF YOU ARE ASKED ABOUT A SUDDEN JOB CHANGE, OR A WEAKNESS IN YOUR BACKGROUND, DO NOT BE DEFENSIVE. FOCUS INSTEAD ON THE FACT (BRIEFLY) AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM THE EXPERIENCE.
  • 8. 4. BE YOURSELF SPEAK CLEARLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS. BE PROFESSIONAL, BUT DON’T BE AFRAID TO LET YOUR PERSONALITY SHINE THROUGH. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF SHORT PAUSES. YOU MAY NEED A FEW SECONDS TO FORMULATE AN ANSWER.
  • 9. 5. STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES DEFINING YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES CAN BE ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT QUESTIONS ASKED DURING AN INTERVIEW. AVOID INTERVIEW PARALYSIS WITH A LITTLE PREPARATION.
  • 10. 6. RESEARCH THE COMPANY SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO LOOK FOR INCLUDES WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE CARRIED OUT BY THE EMPLOYER, HOW FINANCIALLY STABLE THE EMPLOYER IS, AND WHAT TYPES OF JOBS EXIST WITH THE EMPLOYER.
  • 11. 7. BEHAVIORAL QUESTIONS THEY USUALLY ADDRESS A SPECIFIC INCIDENT AT A PAST JOB. THE INTERVIEWER WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT THE DETAILS AND HOW YOU HANDLED YOURSELF. BE SURE TO PREP YOUR ANSWER IN ADVANCE.
  • 12. 8. BRING EXTRA RESUMES AND QUESTIONS YOU MAY REFER TO YOUR LIST OF QUESTIONS TO BE SURE YOU HAVE GATHERED THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO MAKE A DECISION. DO NOT BE PREOCCUPIED WITH TAKING NOTES DURING THE INTERVIEW.
  • 13. 9. BE OBSERVANT BE SURE TO MAKE OBSERVATIONS AND ASK THE NECESSARY QUESTIONS TO MAKE A GOOD ASSESSMENT OF WHETHER THE CULTURE IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR YOU.
  • 14. 10. “SO WHEN DO I START?” A QUESTION LIKE THAT IS ABOUT AS AGGRESSIVE AS YOU CAN GET AT THE CLOSE OF THE INTERVIEW. IT MAY KNOCK THE INTERVIEWER FOR A LOOP AND APPEAR TO BE OVERLY AGGRESSIVE, BUT SOME PEOPLE THINK OF IT AS CLOSING THE SALE.
  • 15. 11. FOLLOW UP FOLLOW UP THE INTERVIEW WITH A THANK-YOU LETTER. EMPLOYERS REGARD THIS GESTURE AS EVIDENCE OF YOUR ATTENTION TO DETAIL, AS WELL AS AN INDICATION OF YOUR INTEREST IN THE POSITION.
