AND COASTAL AREAS, TO SOME OF THE REMOTEST POINTS ON THE
PLANET. IT IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST INDUSTRIES, OR
ECONOMIC SECTORS, CONTRIBUTING TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS ANNUALLY
TO THE GLOBAL ECONOMY, CREATING JOBS AND WEALTH, GENERATING
EXPORTS, BOOSTING TAXES AND STIMULATING CAPITAL INVESTMENT.
TOURISM IN INDIA- A GLIMPSE AND FACTS
• THE TOURISM INDUSTRY OF INDIA IS ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT
AND GROWS RAPIDLY. THE WORLD TRAVEL & TOURISM
COUNCIL CALCULATED THAT TOURISM GENERATED INR 6.4 TRILLION
OR 6.6% OF THE NATION'S GDP IN 2012. IT SUPPORTED 39.5 MILLION
JOBS, 7.7% OF ITS TOTAL EMPLOYMENT. THE SECTOR IS PREDICTED TO
GROW AT AN AVERAGE ANNUAL RATE OF 7.9% FROM 2013 TO
2023. THIS GIVES INDIA THE THIRD RANK AMONG COUNTRIES WITH
THE FASTEST GROWING TOURISM INDUSTRIES OVER THE NEXT
DECADE.

• AVIATION
• CRUISE
• HOSPITALITY
TRANSPORTATION- DEFINITION • ANY DEVICE USED TO MOVE AN ITEM FROM ONE LOCATION TO
ANOTHER. COMMON FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION INCLUDE
PLANES, TRAINS, AUTOMOBILES, AND OTHER TWO-WHEEL

• FIRST FULL-FLEDGED AIR PORT AT DELHI (12500 FT) FOR 747 B
AIRCRAFT WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1939-45.
• FIRST TRAIN FROM MUMBAI TO THANE RAN IN 1953. THE TOTAL
DISTANCE WAS 32 KM.
•KALPANA CHAWLA (1997) IS THE FIRST INDIAN-AMERICAN IN
SPACE.
• IN 1979-82, THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA AND LOCAL
AUTHORITIES CONSTRUCTED FLYOVERS IN DELHI TO
FACILITATE SMOOTH FLOW OF TRAFFIC DURING THE ASIAN
GAMES.
CHALLENGES TO TRANSPORT SECTOR
• INDIA’S ROADS ARE CONGESTED AND OF POOR QUALITY
• RURAL ROADS HAVE POOR ACCESS
• PORTS ARE CONGESTED AND INEFFICIENT
• RAILWAYS ARE NEVER ON-TIME AND SOME RAILWAYS ARE NEVER
WELL-MAINTAINED
• THE RAILWAYS ARE FACING SEVERE CAPACITY CONSTRAINTS
AND ARE ALWAYS IN A MAJOR REVENUE DEFICIT

INCREASING TOURISM IN INDIA- SOME POSSIBLE
• KNOW THE EXACT REQUSIRUEMGEGNETSS TOFI OTHNES FOREIGNERS- THEIR
LIKES AND DISLIKES AND VIEWS AND OPINIONS
• GIVE THEM FOOD WHICH IS LESS SPICIER AND WHICH CAN CONNECT
TO THEIR STAPLE FOOD AT A REASONABLE COST
• STOP DUPING THEM IN VARIOUS GROUNDS AND ENSURING THAT
THEY ARE WELL-TREATED
• OPEN TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRES ALL OVER INDIA, WITH GUYS
WHO HAVE REAL PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE. WHAT IS BADLY MISSING IN
INDIA IS AUTHENTIC INFORMATION
• INDIANS SHOULD THEMSELVES UNDERSTAND THAT FOREIGNERS
ARE ALSO NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS AND NOT OBJECTS IN A
MUSEUM/ZOO TO BE STARED AT WHICH MAKES THEM VERY
UNCOMFORTABLE AND OBSCENE
HOW TRANSPORTATION CAN PLAY AN
IMPORTANT ROLE IN INCREASING TOURISM
• FIRST OF ALL, TRANSPORT FACILITIES IN TOURIST DESTINATION PLACES SHOULD BE MODIFIED IN SUCH A
WAY THAT SUITS THE NEEDS AND WANTS OF THE TOURISTS AND THEY DO NOT FEEL OUT OF PLACE.
• THEN, THE FACILITIES SHOULD BE AT A MODERATELY HIGHER COST SO THAT NOT ALL THE LOCAL PEOPLE
CAN USE THE TRANSPORT FACILITIES. THIS WAY, THE FACILITIES
WILL REMAIN CLEAN AND DESIRABLE.
• WHATEVER THE TRANSPORTATION MODE BE, BE IT ROADS, RAILWAYS
OR AIRWAYS SHOULD BE FREE OF MALPRACTICES THAT MOTIVATE
MORE TOURISM IN THE SUCCEEDING YEARS.
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW
