• SEG Automotive is a leading global supplier of innovative solutions
and technologies for electrified powertrains providing mobility
innovations since 1914.
• SEG Automotive's product portfolio includes starter motors,
alternators, and electronic components for combustion engines, as
well as components for hybrid and electric vehicles. The company is
committed to sustainable mobility, and it strives to make the world a
cleaner and more livable place by reducing CO2 emissions.
• In addition to its focus on sustainability, SEG Automotive is also
committed to innovation. The company invests heavily in research
and development, and it has a team of over 1000 engineers and
technicians working to develop new and innovative solutions.
• SEG Automotive has a global presence, with more than 16,000
employees working in over 30 countries. The company serves a
wide range of customers in the automotive industry, including major
OEMs and suppliers.

4. Work done in 4 weeks
Week 1
• On the first day we were introduced to other interns and our
guides. We were then taken around he entire campus and shown he
various departments in it.
• We were then taken to the HR department and were informed on
the company guidelines and issued ID cards that would give us
access at the gates into the company.
• After this we were allowed to choose the department wed work in
and I chose to work in the Engineering Testing Center.
• The following days in week 1 our guide showed us around the
ETC and different testing centers it

5. Work done in 4 weeks
Week 2
• In week 2 we were told to freely explore the different parts of ETC
and observe the people working there.
• The people working there were all very cooperative and showed us
how different machines worked and encouraged us to ask
questions and clarified our doubts.
• Most of the machines here were complex and expensive so we
weren’t allowed to do any hands-on operation, but we were
allowed to assist the engineers working there with minor tasks and
allowed to operate the various machines under supervision.
• This was done throughout week 2.

6. Work done in 4 weeks
Week 3
• In week 3 on day 1 we were allowed to see the parts procurement
process and how they tested the quality of procured parts.
• On the days that followed teams of interns allowed to inspect
procured parts when they were unloaded based on the quality
standards thought to us in the previous day.
• We were also allowed to be part of some meetings that took place
to understand how things worked in a big organization which
provided us some valuable insight.
• During our free time we were allowed to explore ETC and offer
our help wherever we wanted to.

7. Work done in 4 weeks
Week 4
• This was the final week of our internship and during this week we
were able to observe some of the machines working more closely
and for longer hours with more information on how they worked
• I will talk about some of the machines I saw in week 4 and the
weeks before.
• Firstly, there was starter reliability test room where starters were
attached to mock vehicles with proper cooling system and allowed
to run continuously to see how long they lasted. There were some
starters that had over 300000 test cycles on record.
• Rest of the machines I observed were all in Generator reliability
and Climatic lab where I spent most time during my internship
learning about how different machines in their worked

Week 4
• Rain test chamber: In this machine engine was mounted at the
center of the chamber and they were water tested. Water was
sprayed on them by jets at various angles to see how waterproof
they were.
• Immersion Testing machine: This was another machine to test for
waterproofing but in this machine instead of spraying water on the
engines they were completely immersed in water and various tests
were performed.
• 3-D Random Vibration bench: In this test bench engines were
subjected to vibrations to test their endurance levels.
• Thermal Shock chamber : In his machine engines were subjected
to temperature shocks. The hot zone went up to 150 C and cold
zone went up to -45 C

Week 4
• Apart from these there were various other engine test benches
some new recently sent from Germany to perform more advanced
tests.
• There was also a test ramp to test assembled vehicles that went up
and down for different tests.
• That concluded my weeks at SEG automotive.

10. Case Study on 48V Mild
Hybridization
• Mild hybrids make conventional combustion engines significantly
more efficient with little effort. This involves recovering kinetic
energy while the vehicle is braking just like KERS in Formula 1.
• One of SEG Automotive's most notable developments is its 48V
mild hybrid technology. In this case study, we will explore the
features and benefits of SEG Automotive's 48V mild hybrid
technology and analyze its potential impact on the automotive
industry.
Potential Impact:
• According to the Bloomberg Electric Vehicle Outlook 2021, over
one billion more cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) are
expected to be built by 2040 alone. This is partly due to the much
slower shift to e-mobility in regions such as Africa, Latin America
and India. Equipping all one billion combustion vehicles with 48V
hybridization would save at least two billion metric tons of CO2.

• SEG Automotive's 48V mild hybrid technology has the potential

including Audi, Volkswagen, and Volvo and several other
automakers.
