🔹 HAL Overview:
• HAL is a Maharatna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

• Specializes in final assembly and system integration of the Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas)

• Gain real-time exposure to the integration of flight-critical subsystems such as
the Digital Flight Control Computer (DFCC), Fuel System, and Environmental
Control System (ECS).
• Understand aerospace-grade safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, AS9100) and
their implementation in final assembly and testing procedures.
• Observe and comprehend end-to-end aircraft integration workflows, including
structural alignment, powerplant mounting, and avionics harnessing.

Observed the alignment and joining of the mid-fuselage and rear-fuselage sections through the use
of jig assembly and laser alignment tools. Gained insights into load path continuity and the
application of titanium fasteners in essential areas.

• Turbofan Engine Mounting & Powerplant Interfaces:
Studied the F404-GE-IN20 engine installation, focusing on thrust frame integration, engine
mounting lugs, and vibration damping isolators. Gained knowledge of accessory gearbox coupling
and transmission shaft alignment tolerances.
• Hydraulic Power Generation & Distribution:
Understood the layout of the Hydraulic System No.1 and No.2, including engine-driven hydraulic
pumps (EDPs), hydraulic reservoirs, and electrohydraulic servo valves (EHSVs). Observed the
use of Skydrol-based fluids and redundant line routing for actuator safety.

• Fuel System Layout and Safety Architecture:
Explored fuel tank segmentation in the fuselage and wing roots, gravity & boost-fed transfer system,
venting lines, and fire suppression integration. Learned about pressure sensors, fuel flow meters, and
their interface with the Fuel Management System (FMS).

• Cockpit Avionics Harnessing and LRUs (Line Replaceable Units):
Observed MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 429 compliant harness installations for Mission
Computer (MC), Flight Control Computer (FCC), and Heads-Up Display (HUD). Participated
in continuity testing using megohmmeters and routing through circular MIL connectors with EMI
shielding.

1. Fuselage & Elevon Integration Mapping: Collaborated with the assembly team to understand and
document the integration process of the fuselage sections and elevons. Gained insights into alignment
techniques and structural integrity checks.
2. Engine Installation Observation: Observed the mounting procedures of the General Electric F404-GE-
IN20 turbofan engine. Learned about the alignment of engine mounts, vibration isolation techniques, and
integration with the aircraft's systems.
3. Environmental Control System (ECS) Analysis: Studied the layout and functioning of the ECS,
focusing on air conditioning packs, cabin pressurization mechanisms, and temperature regulation systems.
4. Avionics Harnessing and Testing: Assisted in the inspection of avionics wiring harnesses, ensuring
proper routing and connection integrity. Participated in continuity testing and observed the integration of
Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
