I worked as a staff at Personnel-Administration Division in the
organization. My direct supervisor in the organization is Mai Huynh Thi
Dung whose responsibility for the organization’s project and diplomacy
activities. Therefore, my main task not only translated documents but also
worked in many fields. At first, most documents that I have to translate are
the organization’s daily news and project. At the beginning, I found it
difficult to translate project due to lack of professional vocabulary. Even
though I studied many translation classes at school, it was not easy as I
thought before. Moreover, I joined English class of Mr Philip and American
student as a lecturer assistant. Being well trained presentation skill during
school, so this task did not challenge me much. Besides, I took part in many
social activities of the organization such as: visiting the Da Nang Museum,
attending the 7th
National Korean-Vietnamese Contest and the 2013

PART 3: PERSONAL EXPERIENCE FROM INTERNSHIP
3.1 Advantages and disadvantages during the Internship Period
Every job has own particular advantages as well as disadvantages.
During internship course, I had a lot of advantages. Firstly, I had a good
condition to practice what I have learnt and good environment to develop my
ability effectively. Staffs in my internship site are very friendly and
enthusiastic. They gave me specific plans and instructed what I should do for
my internship period. Especially, they gave me opportunity to join their
English classes without fee and communicate with American students.
Furthermore, I was offered to participate in social activities and important
events of the city that help me update much information. I could know most
of the current events happened in Da Nang that time. I was lucky to meet
oversea students that help me make a lot new friends. It is a perfect
opportunity to learn new culture and to get amazing experience in
communication with oversea students. In addition, they gave me useful advice
that is very useful for my job as well as my life in the future. That was a really
great experience that I got during my internship period.
On the other hand, I also met many disadvantages during my internship
period. Firstly, I found it difficult to seek detailed information about the local
non-government organization I was researching and contacted with them
(Newcastle city, Queensland state, South Australia state, Australia).
Furthermore, my listening skill is not as good as other skills. Therefore, I
sometimes found it hard to understand Mr. Philip and American students.
Next, I realize that lack of vocabulary causes many problems in translation;
therefore, I couldn’t find right word to express what the author wants to
convey. I sometimes event cannot understand what the target language

implies due to differences in expression and culture. Therefore, it took me a
lot of time to read related English news and improve vocabulary knowledge.
Although there were many disadvantages, I have got worthwhile
experience during the internship period. They will be the best precious lesson
following me to enter the life.
3.2 Personal experience gained from the Internship Period
During four week internship at the Da Nang Union Friendship
Organizations, I learned a professional experience that is relevant and directly
related to my major. Besides, the internship was a golden opportunity to
enrich my knowledge in many fields. I think these will help me a lot for my
career in the future.
Firstly, the internship brought to me opportunity to practice my major
knowledge through translating news and project. My translation skill has been
improved very much. There is a considerable increase in my vocabulary as
well as understanding about English and Vietnamese styles. Also, I have
learned how to organize information in persuasive and informative contexts to
provide details in the most effective order. By reading and translating news
and project of the organization, it has improved my vocabulary capability a
lot. In addition, I knew many ways to express same idea in different ways but
still retained main ideas.
Secondly, the internship gave me the great possibility to meet and work
with distinguished oversea students, to know better about other countries’
culture, to make a lot new friends. I could not describe how much fun I had
and how many amazing friendships I made in single month. In fact, I could
not have been more fortunate. I had the chance to improve my language skills,
to see the difference and similarity between Viet Nam and other countries. I
was very happy to participate in their social activities and very thankful to all

the executive board of the organization who gave me that opportunity.
Working here also helped me gain considerable understanding of the city and
its partner organizations, and learned culture of many countries.
Furthermore, I got myself acquainted with the effective working style
and acquired proper code of behaviors with co-workers. At the beginning of
the period, there were several things unfamiliar to me and to be honest I was a
little embarrassed, fortunately thanks to the useful help from all people in the
organization I could quickly overcome those initial difficulties. In addition,
my direct advisor in the organization helped me a lot. She has instilled into
me the confidence to be more creative and innovative problem solver, and
gives me a new way to approach world every day.
During my internship, I clearly realize that what my weakness and also
strong points are in order to improve and adapt myself to the real working
environment. The internship also gave me a chance to manifest my actual
ability for one month practice in the organization but also how much
knowledge I gained after four years in school as well.
In conclusion, I have obtained many benefits from my internship more
than I expected to. I felt grow-up in communication and skills to solve
difficulties; and I feel more confident when communicating with foreigners.
One month might not be long for me to get more tasks; however, it can be
said that I try my utmost to take up what I have learnt in school. In addition,
it was chance for me to get used to the working environment that I might be in
the future. All in all, the experience I gained during my internship period was
invaluable and will last for a lifetime.

PART 4: SUGGESTIONS FOR THE DA NANG UNION OF
FRIENDSHIP ORGANIZATIONS AND DUY TAN
UNIVERSITY
4.1 Suggestions for the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations
For the organization, because my major is translation, I would like to
be given more documents to translate. Personally, the organization is really a
great place for foreign language learners to get worthwhile experience; yet,
the organization just receives a limitation number of students for every
internship period. In other words, I hope that the organization could give more
chances for students to practice here.
The organization often uses the conference room as a working space for
us, so we sometimes had to move or wait for long time if the organization’s
members were having a meeting. Hence, it would be better if the organization
could arrange a more comfortable internship space for student.
4.2 Suggestions for Foreign Languages Department, DTU
In my opinion, internship is a pre-professional work that provides
students with the opportunity to practice and to gain experience before
graduating. It not only teaches student academic skills but also allows them to
explore new concept and try new things. Thenceforth, they can promote their
strengths as well as make good their shortcomings. One thing I feel regret is
that the internship period was rather short than I expected to. In other words, I
hope that the time for internship course could last longer.
Besides, during the internship period, I also realized that working
English environment required not only vocabulary and grammar but also
ability of communication, speaking, listening, etc. However, when I studied at
Duy Tan University, I didn’t have many chances to have real practice. From

my point of view, talking to actual native English speakers is the most
effective way for students to improve English language skill perfectly, and
they are able to present and express themselves more confident. Thus, I hope
that the Department of Foreign Languages as well as the executive board of
Duy Tan University will give more chances to students of Department of
Foreign Languages to communicate with foreigners through outdoor
activities, English club and student exchange program.
I have finished my four-week internship at the Da Nang Union of
Friendship Organizations successfully. I not only obtained worthy experience
but also advance enormous knowledge in many fields. Once more time, I wish
to acknowledge to the executive board of Duy Tan University, the
Department of Foreign Languages, Mrs. Kim Uyen – my supervisor in the
university, Mrs. Dung – official of the organization, and along with other
members of the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations that supported
me a lot during my internship course.
