2. How they happened
• Personally how I know they started around Birmingham
was that people who were more into alternative fashions
and lifestyles would meet in this park called pigeon park in
the city center, good place to make friends and hang out.
• Soon though as the concept of being “internet famous”
became more widely known, these individuals and there
army of online fans and admirers would arrange meet ups
for everyone in the town center to get to know each other
and for internet famous people to meet their followers or
subscribers.
3. Types of Internet famous
• Twitter famous: has a lot of followers and influence, is often seen as funny, daring and sometimes outrageous, often hates the
other social networking sites but will often link their Twitter to Facebook so everyone gets their news feed filled with his/her
tweets. They‟re also very keen to frequently get their tweets to trend.
• Tumblr famous: Someone who has a massive blog and control on the infamous, colorful and random website Tumblr, the
people who reside here are often seen as indies and Hipsters, making tons of memes and edited pictures of themselves with
captions, or they simply take a photo of their street with their Canon DSLR their parents bought them, as a result they‟re often
seen as the most vague and self centered internet group, as if they only cared about themselves, not always the case, they
often wear Obey and Hype brand clothing.
• Facebook famous: The concept of Facebook famous has only really been widely known and accepted in the last year or two,
very popular with young people in more western societies such as the UK, USA, Canada and Mexico, the idea is that Mark
Zuckerberg has not only stole enough ideas from other social networking websites but has also added a „followers‟ and
„subscribers‟ feature, where users over 18 can enable people outside their friends list to be subscribed to their public updates,
which is often still much to the annoyance of their friends before who now get their news feed clogged up, typically Facebook
famous people as a result are more hated that Tumblr famous people, as for the critics they call them self centered and
personal about everything, they like others will often take loads of photos, always making sure their profile picture is edited and
professionally taken, usually in a obscure location such as an underground subway, a high street or a park, often very elaborate
dressers with tons of chains and bracelets and have an eccentric outlook on the world and stylish, most of the time they‟re just
school children who don‟t go to school, it is also a constant competition for who can get the most followers and who can provide
the most daring content, these are often the type of people that go to meet ups nowadays.
• YouTube famous: They may occasionally get hate but these are the group of people that are definitely more respected than the
internet groups, these individuals specialize in making, editing and presenting videos on YouTube for all their fans and
subscribers to see, either of themselves such as vlogging, short films or skits and other things such as game commentaries and
documentaries, these people work the hardest knowing they can‟t let their fans down and are often perfectionists making sure
their content is well polished in terms of editing, clean and presentable, vloggers are the most popular type where a stigma is
often attached to those who make vlogs, They tend to be either British or American, very good looking and the men will often
have quite a bit of a fringe like old style Justin Bieber hair and the woman will just look very pretty in general, although there is
slight sexism in the YouTube community where female vloggers are often seen as attention seeking or feminists, but to draw it
YouTube famous people such as charlieissocoollike, Nerimon and Danisnotonfire are very respected and admired, and often
prefer to go to meet ups aimed specifically more for them since they don‟t tend to understand or get along with other groups.
4. The Meet Up
• So the day will come where all these people meet up in
the city centre, the place where they meet such as where I
live it‟s the fountains, in all fairness it is pandemonium
every time, drunk people, bottle smashing, fights, getting
squashed by stampedes and getting moved by police, not
very fun, they obviously can be enjoyed and attended to
properly, you can chill out and make friends, meet people,
and possibly the more “famous” people, but there does
need to be a line drawn to where what is sociable, and
what is being purely outrageous such as running through
the fountain or smashing a bottle of vodka on the floor, for
me personally it makes the difference between having a
good time in moderation and getting your butt escorted
into the back of a police van.
