3. INTRODUCTION
Internet is made up of millions of computers
linked together around the world. On this
network of networks information can be sent to
any other computer 24 hours a day 7 days a
week. These computers can be in
homes,schools,universities e.t.c. All computers
have the same status once connected to the
internet , the only difference being in the speed
of the connection which is dependent on your
Internet Service Provider and your modem.

4. INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
Information on any and every subject is available
on internet. For example, the website
www.oup.com gives you information about
books published by Oxford University Press.
Much of the information on the internet is at a
reading level that is often too difficult for
elementary school children. However more and
more sites are being set up by organizations
and by children themselves on topics of interest
to kids.

5. CHAT
Chat programs let you communicate with
others in real-time through text messages.
The user can log on to certain websites and
communicate with various other users online
by using an internet chat software. It is an
interactive software that allows the user to
type some comment in one window and
receives replies in one window.

6. ACRONYMS
Many chatters make use of acronyms (words
formed from the first letters of other words) to
express commonly used phrases. Here is a
list of commonly used acronyms.

 LOL Laughing Out Loud
 IIRC If I Recall Correctly
 OTOH On The Other Hand

7. EMOTICONS
Also known as smilies , emoticons are those
symbols you make using characters on your
keyboard. Here’s a list of some commonly
used ones.

e.t.c.
 :,-( I’m so sad , I’m crying.
 :-l I’m neutral towards the idea.
 :-0 I’m so surprised.

8. NEWSGROUPS
Newsgroups are open to anyone to read or
post to , and e-mail discussion lists , you
don’t need to register to use them.
You can use Outlook Express News to access
Usenet and its tens of thousands of
newsgroups.
You can read articles that were posted by other
people , respond to those interest you.
