In this study, we addressed the following questions:
1. What is a family office in the Russian context, and how does Russian practice differ from the international practice of family offices?
2. What are the main objectives that Russia’s wealth possessors expect family offices to meet?
3. What kinds of services family offices provide to meet these objectives?
4. How involved are the family offices in serving the interests of future generations and in addressing succession issues?
5. What are the inner workings of Russian family offices, starting from the jurisdiction of presence to the specifics of how they communicate with the Russia’s wealth possessors?
To answer these questions, we have surveyed 48 experts from various organisations that call themselves family offices, and from the wealth management and private banking departments of domestic and global banks working with Russian clients.
In addition to the survey, we have also conducted a series of in-depth interviews. In the study, we have touched upon all the segments of the Russian market: from family offices that work exclusively with only one family, to commercial family offices serving a large number of independent clients.
We believe that the study provides a fairly comprehensive and representative view of the trends in the Russian family office market, given that, as shown further, according to most market participants, the number of such organisations working in the Russian market with Russian clients is unlikely to exceed a few hundred, and the total number of Ultra High Net Worth individuals is estimated by different sources at only several thousand persons.

The document describes a project using Wikis through the eTwinning platform to teach history and civic education. Students from Spain and Bulgaria researched the history of cities like Madrid and Kazanlak, developing pages on the wiki about each city's history, buildings, and culture. The goals were for students to practice English, collaborate internationally, and learn about being European citizens. Teachers acted as facilitators while students took the lead in researching, setting up wiki pages, and reaching agreements through discussion features. Despite differences, initial results found students enjoyed learning about each other's cities and cultures.

Economic history of the region Twente, The NetherlandsJacques Bazen
The region of Twente in the Netherlands experienced economic growth in the 19th century due to the development of the textile industry, attracted by low wages. However, the textile industry declined in the postwar period due to globalization and lack of innovation. The government invested in higher education to diversify the economy and attract talent. Measures like supporting entrepreneurship, international cooperation, and developing science parks helped improve the economy, but unemployment and income remain above average. Overall, while progress was made, it has been difficult to fully transform the regional economy.

International tourism development in Kabardino-BalkariaJacques Bazen
This presentation deals with some of the challenges of the tourism sector in the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. The focus of the research is on the opportunities and barriers of international tourism development in this Northern Caucasus region.
Besides the negative image among many people about the Northern Caucasus as an area of political instability, some of the other problems are the limited competences in foreign languages of most entrepreneurs in tourism. Even though, this region is because of its stunning natural beauty one of the most beautiful regions in Europe. Also Mt. Elbrus, Europe's highest mountain is located here.

The Netherlands for foreigners: Holland in 10 stereotypesJacques Bazen
The document provides an overview of facts about the Netherlands, also known as Holland, including its geography, population, capital, government, history, culture, and stereotypes. Some key points covered are that the Netherlands has an area of over 41,000 square kilometers and a population of around 16.7 million people. Amsterdam is the capital city and the country is a constitutional monarchy located mainly below sea level, with windmills and bicycles being prominent cultural symbols.
The document discusses project-based education and its importance. It describes how Saxion University of Applied Sciences uses an action-learning model where both lecturers and students work on real-life projects. Students acquire basic knowledge in classes and then apply it through progressively more complex practical projects for companies. This prepares students for starting businesses and accommodates learning-by-doing styles. Challenges include ensuring lecturers have strong coaching skills and managing confidential client information. Examples provided are the Multus student business project and a Dutch-Russian Autumn Business School program.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Internationalization at home a solution?
The answer of Saxion to this problem, according to
the Strategic Plan, is to focus on
Internationalization at Home… In other words,
bring the world outside in the university.
Question is how to do that… How to build such an
environment that students are still able to
experience intercultural differences.
12. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 1: International week
The first solution which we discussed and
implemented (since 2010) was an international
week in which we invited guest lecturers from our
partners abroad.
Was it enough…? Was it effective..?
What are critical success factors?
13. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 1: International week
How to make sure colleagues will come to (with all
respects) a “backwater” like Enschede or Deventer:
We are not a booming metropolis like Moscow or
Amsterdam…
1. Personal relations of lecturers with foreign
lecturers
2. The offer of getting something out of this visit
instead of only bringing their knowledge and
experience to our students.
14. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 1: International week
How to offer something useful?
Our idea: Development of a
conference for researchers on
entrepreneurship, innovation and
regional development.

16. Kom verder. Saxion.
Data international week
During the international week, students get around
eight hours of real experience by foreign lecturers.
Not enough…at least not enough to get:
for those students not going abroad
for studying.
Thorough preparation
for the international
labour market…
17. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 2: More short term study exchanges
If students don’t want to study abroad for a
semester because of social reasons, maybe we can
give them options to go abroad for shorter term
exchanges.
What options are there: Study trips? International
Projects? Intensive weeks at partner universities?
18. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 2: More short term study exchanges
International study trips… Possible. Relatively easy
to organize and easy to fit in the schedule.
Problem: Students mainly interact with their
classmates… except for ordering a beer…
19. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 2: More short term study exchanges
ERASMUS Intensive weeks (or similar things with
ERASMUS+), with a consortium of partners.
- Potentially very useful, but
- Difficult to organize (multi-country) and
- Dependent on funding rules (limiting flexibility)
and only limited availability
- NOBODY desires a coordinating role
20. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 2: More short term study exchanges
International student projects. Harder to organize,
harder to integrate in the curriculum, but
potentially much greater results in terms of
intercultural learning.
How we tried to organize it at Saxion:
21. Kom verder. Saxion.
Ideas behind international projects
Most important characteristic:
Making students from different countries
dependent on each other.
No group should be able to finish without
contributions of either countries.
22. Kom verder. Saxion.
Solution 2: More short term study exchanges
• Example 1: Culture and business “Dutch –

- During the week, some lectures about
intercultural communication, visit of institutions,

presentation
- End of the week: Presentation for the

58. Kom verder. Saxion.
Practicalities of this project
• Strategic plans have big words, with great plans, but
unfortunately often little budget.
• Often a lot of money ends up at supporting services,
unfortunately that seems inevitable in large organizations
• So: apart from some money for the trip of the lecturers, no
further direct financial contribution of the university. Self-
funding for students
• Necessity of having an attractive offer for students, both in
content and social sphere.
59. Kom verder. Saxion.
How to make it work?
• Some hours for lecturers for guidance of the
project can be obtained by incorporating the
project in the curriculum.
• In Saxion: in the module Project Management
(SBRM) and International Trade (TBK)
• In Moscow: within the module International
Business
• For lecturers: Investing in this type of projects in
their free time during the start.
61. Kom verder. Saxion.
International student projects
Benefits:
• It is good for companies because of the possibilities to scout
new talent and develop their business (limited costs: just
time from staff for guidance)
• It is good for universities because of getting relevant input
from the working field and good PR & “Internationalisation at
home”
• It is good for the students because of the application of what
they have learned in practice: Better competences for their
CV.
62. Kom verder. Saxion.
International student projects
• Problem: Time… & Reliable partners…
• Necessary: Strong decision from the management
of universities to invest in organizing such
projects
• Necessary for companies: Willingness to invest
time to help young people.
63. Kom verder. Saxion.
International student projects
• Problem for universities: How to make good
appointments with university partners?
• Necessary: Agreement about Intended Learning
Outcomes. Crucial!
(Many other issues can be organized differently
according to culture / rules of the partners
involved).
• Other issues are mostly flexible. Requirements
from curriculum committees can fit in there.
64. Kom verder. Saxion.

Quote:
I expected the Dutch to be very cold blooded,
sober and efficient. That turned out to be different.
Most of us thought in advance they were some
extreme type of Germans. In fact, they can enjoy a

73. Kom verder. Saxion.
Conclusion
The model works when there is:
- Interdependency among the students
- Clear agreement on learning outcomes
- Willingness of lecturers & companies to invest
time
- Find partners who can contribute with supplying
rooms, lectures, contacts etc.
