PLAN
JU FOURTH ACADEMICYEAR FIRST SEMESTER 2024 INTERIOR DESIGN
The building was constructed in 2019 as an exhibition venue,
with community input advocating for its design as a communal
center and a gathering place for the enjoyment and discussion of
the exhibitions.
The building represents elements of contrast from the
surrounding area and simplicity to focus on the different
activities possibilities of the space
from outside to inside:

Juanzong Books is located at the Anaya Art Center in
Qinhuangdao. It was originally a coffee shop with two
spaces connected together, one high and one low
The clear height of the high space is 6m
Guests enter from the second floor of the Art Center
and walk down the stairs to the concierge. The low
space is only 2.5m high and opens towards an outdoor
sunken theater
Due to the construction period being
only one month, they retained all walls
and floors without any hidden
construction work and only changed
the atmosphere of the space by
replacing the suspended ceiling and
furniture

Since it is an architectural bookstore, it should have a corresponding
atmosphere, not too fashionable or too exquisite. The items in the
space should be simple and direct, creating a sense of 'workspace'.
22.
The lighting shouldalso use a suitable color temperature for work,
instead of the usual warm feeling. We designed all the pendant
lamps and bookshelves that shaped the bookstore’s personality and
chose a classic form

Lamp
“The pendant lamp is folded out of a
galvanized steel plate. If you unfold it, it is
exactly a semicircle. As for why did a small
notch be cut off below each crease? We can
explain that such a small opening would
make the lamp look more lightweight. But in
fact, it is the action of origami that brings
back our childhood memory of handicrafts.
We always find such small corners where fold
and glue are applied”

They designed the lamps and exhibition tables especially for

corresponding characteristics – simply structured,

Pre-fab table
A long row of tables would form a unified entity only if their legs are at the quartile position of the whole length. However,
this is not a normal position for legs to support the table, so we reconsidered the design logic and made the legs
themselves self-supporting structures. As a result, the desktops become flat plates sitting on top. Due to the oversize of
the tables, we also considered their disassembling and flat packaging for easier transportation. The final form of the
exhibition table responds to all these needs

EscaCueva is an innovative restaurant design that redefines the dining
experience. This project seeks to create a space that is intimately
connected to nature, blurring the boundaries between architecture and
organic forms. Taking its inspiration from the intricate beauty of the
female body, Cueva translates our organic form and its curves into a
rationalized design that fosters a unique and inviting space. Creating an
environment that reflects the body's complex elegance while
prioritizing comfort and practicality for its inhabitants. The final design
achieved a holistic effect, seamlessly blending and transforming the
restaurant's previously rigid Cartesian layout. This sculpted space blurs
the lines between the user and their surroundings. Organic forms
throughout the design evoke a sense of visual peace with depressions,
creases, and strategically placed artificial lighting.

48.
Advanced 3D technologyand software were
used to achieve this vision, moving across the
different computational programs to capture
the desired organic form. Drawing parallels
with the natural world, we then incorporated
creases and textures reminiscent of
weathering into the design. Then, the latest
production methods were employed to
translate this from a digital 3D model to
reality, bridging the gap between the digital
and physical realm. The form's "exoskeleton"
became the blueprint for the steel
infrastructure, which was assembled by local,
skilled artisans and then finished with layers
of stucco. Through constant communication
and a deep understanding of material
limitations, we prioritized a smooth transition
from design to construction. By anticipating
challenges, we minimized the need for major
adjustments on-site.
49.
Rough surfaces, suchas the ecru flooring,
complemented by modern custom furniture
upholstered in earthy-toned leathers ground
the scheme, illuminated by natural and
artificial light. Stretched ceiling fixtures
emulate the diffuse glow of sunlight filtering
in through the rounded openings, while
others embedded into creases and
depressions accentuate depth and texture.
“Blurring the lines between architecture and
nature, the user and their surroundings,
strategic placement of lighting helped
enhance the forms, creating a visual peace,”
Kamal adds. The vibe intensifies, however, in
the restrooms, where the fluid, monumental
curves are lit by vividly hued LEDs that may
remind patrons of saffron, a common
Egyptian spice.
