MUSEUM OF EGYPTIAN ARCHITECTURE
- Most work of the Egyptian Architects in the
first half of the 20th century never claimed any
attention of the public nor the government,
though I think they really deserve this attention
-and more-, similar to what the Egyptian Islamic
Architecture or the Pharaonic Architecture got.
- This museum is my demonstration of how to tell
a story using the elements of architecture, and
how to motivate the visitor and challenge him to
think, create and contribute to the building and
the issue we are discussing.

CONCEPT & FORM FINDINGMUSEUM SCENARIO
1. A plain gray cubic form that represents the search
for the new identity that needs to be formed onto
a pure form, and its colour is gray to represent the
mislead that happend in the 20th century.
2. Another “black” form attacks this pure form, coming
from the centre of the Parisian Cairo, the project
that diminished the Egyptian Identity.
3. The former attack leads to two small forms inside
the cube, one is “to go back to the old” which is
a dead end and the other is “to create the new
identity”.
4. A final form is added to end the journey, but it
remains detached because we haven’t seen the end
yet.
• This is a museum to honour the works of the Egyptian architects
of the 20th century, who never had the deserved recognition.
• They searched for the lost Egyptian identity, that was diminshed
after the “Parisian Cairo” project and the English occupation of
Egypt.
• They were devided into two directions in their search. Some
of them suggested turning back to the Islamic identity or the
Pharaonic identity, while the others thought of creating a whole
new identity that matches the situation in Egypt back then,
which is an intersting direction that I, personally, support and
demonstrate in this Museum.
• The museum takes us into a journey starting from the Pharaonic
Era, then the Islamic Era, then the English Occupation and Pa-
risian Cairo Era, followed by the two directions of the Egyptian
Architects, then it ends in workshops to challenge the visitor to
demonstrate their vision of the true Egyptian identity, of what
can make this architecture an Egyptian architecture.

• Location: Next to the Egyptian Museum.
• To complete the concept, it was necessary to choose a site as
close as possible to “Parisian Cairo” and its centre; Al-Tahrir
Square. Also, to honour one of the most important Egyptians
Architects, Mahmoud Reyad.
• The Socialist Union Headquarters building (Later became the
national democratic party headquarters), designed by architect
Mahmoud Reyad, was listed as one of the “Characteristic Build-
ings” in The National Organization of Urban Harmony for Law no.
114 in 2006. Yet, after 25 Jan Revolution and the fire breaking
out in the building, the Prime Minister and the government
decided to demolish it, even when “Riad Architects” refused
the decision and proposed with a project to renovate the burnt
building. The decision of government shows how they look at
the architecture and architects unconsciously without realizing
the important role they play in society. So, for a museum that
shows the importance of architecture, this is a suitable site.

BIKERS ZONE
- The design of bicycles showcase consists of three
shipping containers.
- The ground floor consists of one container with
two spiral staircases on the right and the left that
connects with the first floor that consists of two
containers, showcasing the mountain bikes and
city bikes.
- In this project, I decided to invest more time in
detailing the surrounding context of the project, to
make it appear in a “real” Egyptian context.
