Asking for something is to speak or write to someone because
you want them to give you something.
There are different ways of asking for something.
We usually ask for something in a polite and indirect way.
For example, using can, could, would you mind if, i’d like, may, etc.

Tips
When you ask someone for something, or you ask them to do something
for you, it is essential to be as polite as possible. Here are some ways
that you can be polite.
- Greeting
“Hi”, “Good morning”
- Remember "please" and "thank you"
"Please" normally goes at the end of the sentence.
Say "thank you" after you have received something.
- Say "excuse me"
If you ask someone who is doing something else, remember to say
"excuse me“.
