A Study on Mergers and Acquisitions of Indian Banking Sectorijtsrd
The Indian banking sector has witnessed many Mergers and Acquisitions in the recent and past decades. With this context this study analyzed pre and post merger performance of ING Vysya Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank using CAMEL rating approach system. The quality of assets is an important parameter to gauge the strength of the bank. The prime aphorism behind measuring the assets quality is to ascertain the component of non performing assets NPAs , total investments and total assets. This paper mainly aims to highlight the theoretical background of merger and acquisition and evaluation of assets quality in Indian banking sector and to examine the pre and post merger performance of net NPAs to net advances and gross NPAs to gross advances in ING Vysya and Kotak Mahindra bank. And also, to assess the pre and post merger performance of total investment to total assets and net NPAs to total assets of ING Vysya and Kotak Mahindra Bank. In this paper data has been collected from secondary sources and for the purposes of analysis or to measure adequacy of data applied one sample T Test, descriptive statistics. Finally, this study results net NPAs to net advances, gross NPAs to gross advances, net NPAs to total assets post merger performance was high and improved compared to the pre merger performance of Kotak Mahindra bank. Further the total investment to total assets the post merger performance was less or reduced after ING Vysya Bank merged with Kotak Mahindra Bank. Therefore, there is a significant difference between pre and post merger performance of net NPAs to net advances and total investment to total assets. K. Divya | Dr. P. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As part of requirement’s of Valley View University(VVU) for the award of undergraduate degree
in Bachelor in Business Administration(BBA) with option Banking And Finance. I undertook an
internship program at Nkwanta North District Assembly (NNDA) from 10th
June to 24th
august
6. 6
2015.Nkwanta North District Assembly is situated at Kpassa the district capital of the District in
the Northern part of Volta Region and has all the structures of a district assembly including the
Account Sections (Treasury and Finance departments) where I applied my accounting
knowledge.
Filling of inventory control cards and entering into the appropriate ledgers, issuing of goods to
operational or user departments were some of my job description.
One of the greatest challenges I uncounted was the difficulty to locate or identify goods in the
general stores since it has not been coded. I learnt in the course of the internship that quality
service delivery is very important when it comes to Assembly works and I had a lot of
experience.
Upon clear observation, the assembly needs to clearly define its line of authority and
responsibility, motivate its valued assets, coach and monitor performances regularly.
2.0 INTRODUCTION OF ORGANIZATION
The internship program is an essential part of the course structure of the school of Business of
Valley View University
During the period, students acquire practical experience to blend with their academic knowledge.
Students are given internal supervision in the industry but a supervisor from the university
checks on the actual exercise students are undertaking. This serves as a good training and
7. 7
preparing students for their future career. The internship helps to develop good attitude to work,
learn more skills and expose them more to team work.

As a business student with accounting background, I was assigned to the Account department

Finance Officer The departments are linked to the other departments of the institution.
The work done at Accounts department is very essential and delicate so any mistake committed
9. 9
by this department has a serious effect on the institution and district revenue as far as accounting
is concern.
During my stay at the assembly I learnt and performed the following activities:
• Writing and preparation of Establishment Warrants(EW) and distribution of payslips
• Balancing of accounts and assist in writing Cash book
• Issuing of goods to the operational or user departments.
• Writing of Payment Vouchers(P Vs) and disbursement

• Writing and issuing of cheques
• How purchases were done.
• Filling of inventory control cards and entering into their appropriate ledgers.
• Selling and marketing of district banners, car and motor stickers
3.1 WEEKLY REPORT OF WORK SCHEDULE
WEEK ONE (1)
As a fresh person to the assembly and also attachment personnel, I had orientation for two days
before I could work at the account section of which I was taken through the rules and regulations
of the institution. Also I have been introduced to the channel of communication and after that,
they took me round all the units of the assembly to announce my mission and also introduce
myself to the workers.
10. 10
I began normal work on the third day after my arrival at the assembly where I was assigned to
accounting Department .The assistant accountant introduce me to some basic rules and
regulations and after that, I was taken through how to enter a series of transactions in to the
ledger.
My daily and weekly activities ended by assisting in the preparation of establishment
warrant(EW). I was thought to write letters and corresponding to letters from other fields such
as: GES, NADMO,and Immigration etc. I was also assigned to distribute payslips to workers
such as teachers etc.
At the end of this week i learnt how to communicate with workers in other field and i also learnt
how to fill inventories such as entering payroll number etc.
WEEK TWO (2)
My second week work continued at NNDA. I performed several duties such as writing the stores
issue and receipt voucher, updating the Cashbooks. Entering all financial transactions into the
appropriate ledger, writing off and balancing of accounts and also assist in writing cash book by
entering the particulars or details, date , the cheque number and entering transaction
transactions(debiting and crediting) accounts in the Cash book.
WEEK THREE (3)
Normal work continued in the third week as I continued with the update of the inventory control
cards, writing the stores issue and receipt voucher and also updated the stores ledger books.
11. 11
I was asked by the stores officer to receive requisition books from all the department of the
assembly so that we can issue commodities such as dust bins, among others.
I ended the third week by receiving requisition books from user departments to enable us issue
assembly commodities to the departments requesting for the commodities and also to the
community. I also wrote the stores issue and receipt voucher and updated the stores ledger. I
updated the inventory control cards and assisted in the issuing of district commodities to the
operational departments.
WEEK FOUR (4)
I began the fourth week by joining my colleague from Sunyani Poly to write Payment Vouchers.
The PV has got a PV NO. Which you have to enter with reference to written and issued cheque
but not including canceled cheque. It also involves debit, date, details of expenditure, amount,
etc, then a portion for the District Finance Officer(DFO) to endorse, a portion for the District
Co-ordinate Director(DCD) to sign and then a portion for the receiver to sign. The PV demands
no error as far as cash is concern
WEEK FIVE (5)
Normal work continued within the fifth week as I continued this week with that college from
Sunyani Poly to work on Disbursement forms. As the name goes to pay out money, especially
from a fund. Disbursement always move with the payment voucher(PV), i entered particulars
into the disbursement form and Payment Voucher(PV) for payment to be done since payment
can only be done with the PV, Disbursement and cheque.
12. 12
WEEK SIX (6)
The sixth week started with a holiday but in the cause of the week I was assigned to write
haulage and transfer grant and also to sort out which worker receives haulage or transfer grant or
both haulage and transfer grant. As the names entail, haulage is the business of transporting
goods by road, especially in lorries; and transfer is to move from one place, person, group, etc to
another. This exercise is to help know what each worker receives based on where they are
transferred from.
WEEK SEVEN(7)
On the seventh week I helped in the writing and issuing cheques to students from the MP’s
Common Fund and the District Assembly’s Common Fund(DACF) who have admission to
senior high or tertiary and had therefore applied for financial support in paying their bills
attached with a copy of their students ID Card or Admission letter. An amount is therefore
approved by the MP or the DCE after which a cheque is written and issued to the one designated
for it. Any mistake committed on the cheque renders the cheque a spoilt and a canceled cheque.
WEEK EIGHT(8)
I started the eight week by registering cheques into the cheque register, this is also a very
essential exercise to discharge. Cheques are recorded in a sequential manner for the purpose of
reference and trust. To register a cheque in the cheque register one requires the date and the
cheque number as well which is serially arranged. Cheques are recorded when written however
13. 13
there are cheques referred to as canceled cheque which are not recorded since they are not issued
based on errors or some other reasons. Through this I learnt how to make proper recording and
entry
WEEK NINE(9)
I started the ninth week by joining my colleague from Sunyani Poly in filling of inventory
control cards and entering into the appropriate ledger updating the inventory control cards and
other ledgers. I also performed several duties such as transferring series of transaction from the
stores issue and receipt voucher in to their various inventory control cards. I also updated the
stores ledgers by transferring transactions from the inventory control cards in to the stores
ledgers.
In this week, one of our supplier called ABEG GOD ENTERPRISE supplied us with two
machineries (a printer and a photocopier) which were received by the stores department of which
I was part of the team that received and then recorded the items into the general stores.
WEEK TEN(10)
I continued my tenth and final week by helping the assembly in the mobilization of
Internationally Generated Fund(IGF). This is to help the assembly to generate funds for its
activities. One way of making this happen is through levy and tax collected from various people
such as the market etc. One way to do this is negotiation and team work since people will want to
14. 14
know why the pay such monies and therefore may look difficult
I also helped in the selling of banners, motor and car stickers etc to generate revenue for the
assembly with the help of my marketing background.
Finally, I ended the tenth week and the entire internship with Nkwanta North District Assembly
by going round the various departments of the assembly to announce about my exit from the
assembly and to also thank the staffs of the assembly about their support given to me during the
entire duration of the internship period.

personally.
CONCLUTION
My internship ended successfully and necessary experienced acquired. I learned many things on
local government work especially how to relate with co-workers and was exposed to accounting
practicality as a field of study.
GENERAL COMMENT AND REMARKS
The level of supervision and training given to me was very encouraging and I entreat all the
institution in the country to emulate.
OBSERVATION ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
During my internship period at Nkwanta North District Assembly, I observed that the work loads
on the workers are more than the available staffs and I suggest to the administrator to employ
more workers to reduce the work load on the staffs.
SUMMARY
This attachment has brought a lot of experience to students and prepared them for the future.
The benefits of the internship include;
Enable students learn office manners through interaction with clients.
18. 18
Provide students an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge with that of the
practical knowledge.
RECOMMENDATIONS
I recommend to the university authority to put in place measures that should compel each and
every student to undertake the internship program
Also the university authority should adequately educate their students for them to understand that
internship is to their benefits and not a place to make money.
