The length of the apprenticeship program will be three (3) years with an
on-the-job training (OJL) attainment of forty- ve hundred (4500) hours
supplemented by the required hours of related instruction as stated on
the Work Processes and Related Instruction Outlines.
Full credit will be given for the probationary period.
Apprentice Insulation Workers will receive training and perform work in
the following:
• Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial
equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical
systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to
help control noise and maintain temperatures.
• Cover, seal, or nish insulated surfaces or access holes
with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement
or asphalt mastic.
• Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed,
and methods of installation, based on factors such as
location, surface shape, and equipment use.
• Fit insulation around obstructions, shape insulating
materials and protective coverings as required.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in
order to protect the insulation from weather conditions
or physical damage.
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using
tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
• Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing
or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by
attaching metal pins to surfaces.
• Read blueprints and speci cations to determine job
requirements.
• Select appropriate insulation such as berglass,
Styrofoam, or cork, based on the heat retaining or
excluding characteristics of the material.

and not be less than 18 years of age. A high
school diploma or GED equivalency is required.
Applicant must provide an official transcript(s)
for high school and post high school education
and training.
All GED records must be submitted if
applicable. Applicants must submit a DD-214
to verify military training and/or experience if
they are a veteran and wish to receive
consideration for such training/experience.
Applicants will be physically capable of
performing the essential functions of the
apprenticeship program, with or without a
reasonable accommodation, and without
