           2. (a) Explain by means of neat sketches, the use of helical potentiometers for dis-
                    placement measurement.
               (b) Explain by means of neat sketches, the working principle of pressure ther-
                    mometers.                                                                        [6+10]

           3. (a) How do you measure the pressure with the help of U-tube manometer and
                    Micro manometer.
               (b) Explain the working principle of Pirani thermal conductivity gaguge [8+8]

           4. Show that there exists a linear relation ship between the volume ow rate and
               displacement of oat in the case of a rotameter .Prove that if the density of the
                oat material is made twice that of owing uid, the volume ow rate becomes
               independent of the density of the owing uid and compression is almost complete
               for all ows.                                                                             [16]

           5. (a) Describe the working principle of D.C.Tachometer generator and what are its
                    advantages and disadvantages.
               (b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of centrifugal speed tachometer?

           2. (a) Explain various methods used for reference junction compensation in thermo-
                    couples.
               (b) Explain the construction and working of a thermometer to measure tempera-
                    tures above 7000C.                                                                   [8+8]

           3. (a) Discuss various types of elastic pressure sensing elements used in electrical
                    Transducers.
               (b) Describe the application, advantages and limitations of elastic diaphragm
                    gauges.                                                                          [10+6]
           4. (a) Explain the principle of operation of a Rotameter. What are its limitations?
               (b) Discuss the types of ow meters.                                                       [8+8]
           5. (a) A centrifugal tachometer having range 25-300, 250-3000, and 2500-30000 rpm
                    is to used to measure the speed of a shaft which is believed to be in the vicinity
                    of 3000 rpm. What range setting should be tried and why?
               (b) List any three mechanical tachometers used for measuring angular velocity
                    and brie y explain them with suitable diagrams.                                  [4+12]
           6. (a) List a few bonding adhesives used for bonding strain gauges to the test surface.
               (b) Name the various types of strain gauges for di erent applications.
               (c) An electric resistance strain gauge of 100 resistance and gauge factor 2 is
                    bonded to a specimen of steel. Calculate the change in resistance of the gauge
                    when a tensile stress of 60MN/ 2 is applied on the specimen. [4+6+6]

           7. (a) Explain with a diagram a pendulum scale of multi lever type.
               (b) Explain the method of measuring of force using a pneumatic load cell. [8+8]
           8. (a) What is a servo mechanism? Explain
               (b) Describe the operation of a driver driving an automobile on the road and
                    identity the components, input and output of the human system. [8+8]

Show that there exists a linear relation ship between the volume ow rate and displacement of oat in the case of a rotameter .Prove that if the density of the oat material is made twice that of owing uid, the volume ow rate becomes independent of the density of the owing uid and compression is almost complete for all ows. (b) Explain the construction and working of a thermometer to measure tempera- tures above 7000C. [8+8] 3. (a) Discuss various types of elastic pressure sensing elements used in electrical Transducers. (b) Describe the application, advantages and limitations of elastic diaphragm gauges. [10+6] 4. (a) Explain the principle of operation of a Rotameter. What are its limitations? (b) Discuss the types of ow meters. [8+8] 5. (a) A centrifugal tachometer having range 25-300, 250-3000, and 2500-30000 rpm is to used to measure the speed of a shaft which is believed to be in the vicinity of 3000 rpm. What range setting should be tried and why? (b) List any three mechanical tachometers used for measuring angular velocity and brie y explain them with suitable diagrams. [4+12] 6. (a) List a few bonding adhesives used for bonding strain gauges to the test surface. (b) Name the various types of strain gauges for di erent applications. (c) An electric resistance strain gauge of 100 resistance and gauge factor 2 is bonded to a specimen of steel. Calculate the change in resistance of the gauge when a tensile stress of 60MN/ 2 is applied on the specimen. [4+6+6] 7. (a) Explain with a diagram a pendulum scale of multi lever type.
