Inspirations
- 1. I like how this magazine has a black and white colour scheme, with green subheadings. I would change the fact that there’s only one person in the main image. I would have a photograph of a band but keep it black and white. I would also get rid of the advertisement of WHSmith. This magazine has a good layout and I would put the image over the masthead to show its importance. I like how they’ve used the colour orange as a statement colour to stand out from the grey , background and black text. I would like to use the idea of slanting the text because it shows a nice effect.
- 2. I like the idea of having a ripped side of the page because it is quite unique. It’s not a typical convention of a contents page, which makes it interesting. The scattered images coordinate with the scrapbook look, which is something that I would possibly like to achieve in my magazine. The main image is quite interesting as it’s just the back of the artists body, but the significance of the guitar shows that he’s a guitarist. The page number, his name and the description of the article is positioned on his back, which isn’t ordinary as the magazine editors usually position it on the corner of photographs so it doesn’t interfere. Also the photograph is black and white, which is a house style I would like to obtain. This contents page has a ‘band index’ which I would like to have in my contents page because it is straight to the point about who is featured in the magazine. Also, unconventionally the magazine has a heading of ‘THIS WEEK’ which is different to the ordinary ‘contents’ headings. This is also something I consider featuring in my magazine.
- 3. This magazine DPS is quite interesting in the layout because they’ve used the full image as a background and interoperated the text with the image. The way the text wraps around the singers arm is definitely something I would like to use and also the fact the main text has a black transparent background. I would change the image so it was black and white and the text would be all white apart from the headline and subheadings Both of these DPSs have an image that runs over to the other side of the page where the article content is. This puts a lot of focus on the photo but also links it to the text. But ‘the vaccines’ article have a different background from the image background which separates the two. I would rather have my DPS like the ‘Wild Child’ article because it links in very well and there are subheadings for every topic.
