Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys
I like the arctic monkeys work because it’s all linked. They all have a greyscale/black
and white theme which connects all of their work. In addition, the music video to
‘Arabella’ and the digipak links to bad habits like smoking and alcohol. In the music
video, there is cuts to narrative to a girl called presumably called Arabella which links
to the lyrics where the whole song is talking about. There is two locations but in the
same place, there is the main stage and what looks like a secondary room where the
cuts to Arabella take place. There is so few locations because the music video is
meant to be a performance in a bar. This is also the reason why there is so few
costume changes.
Rag’n’Bone Man
Rag’n’Bone Man
There is one thing that links all of Rag’N’Bone Man’s work and that is that the main
focus is on him. He is always central and in the foreground. There are also links
between the website and the music video to ‘Human’; there is a warping affect in the
music video and on the website you can move your cursor around the screen to warp
the image of the artist. In the music video, there is cuts to many different people
warping between each other. This links to the lyrics of ‘you’re only human after all’
suggesting that everyone is equal. There is one location used which appears to be an
abandoned factory meaning that one costume is used for continuity purposes. The
camera work used is handheld and shaky when the vocals get loud linking to the
artist’s thoughts and emotion going into the lyrics.
G-Eazy
G-Eazy
In the music video to ‘Me Myself and I’, the lyrics say ‘I just need space to do me’ as
the music video cuts to the narrative of him walking through a party alone with the
main focus on him. The main focus on him continues throughout his work on his
digipak and website and is also shown through tracking camera movements. There is
also a theme of black and white on the digipak and website. The one location in this
music video is the party however, at the party, he moves away to the bathroom and
talks to many different versions of himself showing his mental battle. Because it is set
at a party, there is one costume for continuity purposes.
The Weeknd
The Weeknd
The lyrics to ‘Starboy’ of ‘look what you’ve done’ are represented by cuts to narrative
of him smashing up his awards and his furniture suggesting that he doesn’t like his
past work. This is also shown at the beginning where he kills ‘the old version’ of
himself with his old hairstyle and reappears with a new look. As well as this, on the
front of his album, he has his head in his hands. The camera angle tracks him to keep
the focus on him which is also shown on his website where it shows him performing.
The location of the music video is in his house where he smashes everything up. The
‘old’ him has a different costume to the new him which is more ‘bad boy’ suggesting
that this is the new him.
