Locks? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Locks - Michael BarkerJAX London
Embrace the dark side. As a developer you'll often be advised that writing concurrent code should be the purview of the genius coders alone. In this talk Michael Barker will discard that notion into the cesspits of logic and reason and attempt to present on the less understood area of non-blocking concurrency, i.e. concurrency without locks. We'll look the modern Intel CPU architecture, why we need a memory model, the performance costs of various non-blocking constructs and delve into the implementation details of the latest version of the Disruptor to see how non-blocking concurrency can be applied to build high performance data structures.

1. Inspiration
On slides below convey a range of
trailers and TV series that inspired
different shot types and iconography
that we could use in our own trailer
2. Paranormal Activity 4
This was used to inspire
us for shot ideas because
it has a number of CCTV
style shots that we
thought would fit into
the types of shots we
were planning on using.
Also it used a lot of
iconography that was
associated to horror. And
the pace build up in
trailer was good and
effective to making it
eerie and scary.

3. Carrie
Similar to Paranormal Activity
Four this trailer had a lot of
iconic shot that related to the
genre of horror. Also someone
standing in the distance with
bloody face then suddenly
looking up. Is one scene that
was inspired by this trailer.

4. The Helpers
Inspiration taken from this is
the scene with the hammer
lunging towards the camera.
This is iconic to genre of horror
because hammers are symbolic
to horror. Also we felt similar
to Paranormal Activity Four
they use a lot of CCTV style
shot that tie into some shot
types we aim to use.

The reason behind choosing that particular
episode was because it was based around a
talent contest. And as group we felt that
watching it individually in our own time. We
found out after a discussion hat a lot of aspects
in narrative related to our own work. In relation
to stereotypes found in the music industry. And
how we could use ideas of stereotypes in our for
example Tiger Lily coming across like this
individual liberal character but in actuality she
sell’s her dignity ( topless photos) for success and
fame.
